Re: It's nice to have you Carsten.

Isner is returning from mono and got an injury in his last match so I think Ball will fancy his chances in this match. A big chance for him to make the semis and I probably wouldnt even put the final beyond him given that Fish is carrying an injury and was lucky to beat the Gooch and Mayer wasn't that great against Kunitsyn.

Re: It's nice to have you Carsten.

Ball beat Isner in May 7-6 6-7 7-6, however that was on clay so this rematch will be very different. Would be a huge achievement from him if he made his way to the semis here.

Re: It's nice to have you Carsten.

Ball defeated Isner 64 64 and is into the semis where he can definitely make it into the final as he will play Leo Mayer after Mardy Fish withdrew. Pretty strange that last week he was beaten comprehensively by Bruno Agostinelli and a week later he finds himself on the cusp of making an ATP final.

Re: It's nice to have you Carsten.

This is so good to see. He has a good chance at beating Mayer I think. He will now move to a career-high rank of 160 regardless of his semi result, and with a finals appearance would move to around 147.

Re: It's nice to have you Carsten.

Carsten beat Isner 6-4 6-4. It's been a while since an Aussie besides Lleyton has made the semifinal of an ATP tournament. Pretty big result for him but I like his chances of beating Leonardo Mayer and reaching the final here. You have remember this is actually Carsten's home event because he was born, raised and lived his whole life in California.

I'm not even ruling out him winning this whole tournament although Sam Querry looks to be in really good form.

Re: It's nice to have you Carsten.

Yeah Tommy Haas looks dangerous as well, he has a huge chance to make the final here. As you said, would be the first Aussie besides Lleyton to atleast make an ATP semifinal since Gooch did in Sydney 2008?

Re: It's nice to have you Carsten.

Yeah he should definitely get the US Open Wildcard now unless he has a severe drop in form or another aussie can replicate his success which unfortunately I doubt. Hopefully he can put up a good show in the final.

It will be interesting to see what he does now in terms of whether he keeps playing the American challengers. At least he wont be able to play the futures now.

Re: It's nice to have you Carsten.

At the Vancouver Challenger he has drawn a qualifier in the first round and then if he can get past that it is the winner of Chiudinelli vs Lindahl.

Re: It's nice to have you Carsten.

He will get the wildcard, no doubt, just like he did last year. If he wins this event he will move into the top 120 - great for AUS tennis.

Incase any of you are interested - his SF match is on TV tonight at 7:30 on Fox Sports 2.

Re: It's nice to have you Carsten.

Unfortunately he lost the final to Querrey 6-4 3-6 6-1. In the first set both players were pretty shaky, Ball dropped his serve, then broke back immediately, then was broken again. Second set he played really well, however he ran out of gas in the third set and didn't look like he was trying which is disapointing. Nonetheless, a great week from Ball and he definitely looks like he will break the top 100 some time next year.
