There's 2 weeks between the playoff and the Aussie summer of events, if they are tired because of that, they don't deserve to be playing.

Looks like you don't understand tennis yourself. Yes, just because they will be replacing some training with matchplay means it will stuff up their preparation and make them tired for the Aussie tournaments. I think playing 5 setters will help them get prepared for long tough matches.
