Re: Aussies in Challengers and Futures

How a guy with a serve like that lose a set 6-0 to Lajola is beyond me.

Re: Aussies in Challengers and Futures

Gooch is such a disappointment. He broke into the top 100 at age 22 and has regressed significantly since then. He has beaten numerous top 20/30 opponents in the past... even top 10 guys, now, he gets bageled by mugs like Lajola.

"with his height and his serve, he could be fucking lethal out there", "he should be top-30 in the world and trouble anyone if he was properly fit." - John Newcombe, 2008.

While I don't think he's top-30 material, he really should be ranked a lot higher than he is. This guy needs to get motivated/have a proper coach or something... does he even have a coach? He only plays well in Davis Cup.

I would have to agree with all that. It really is sad and begs the question as to why he can't put all his effort into staying consistent on the groundies and being fit. Seeing him play a few times...his volley is great, serve massive...yet never gets consistent results....it's too bad such a great serve goes to waste

Re: Aussies in Challengers and Futures

He and Peers gave a walkover in the doubles, so maybe he was struggling with another injury?

(Q) Strode d [6] Marinko Matosevic 7-6(8) 6-1

Marinko sucks on clay. it would be a waste if he get the French wild card.

Alex Bolt is on fire in Italy, he qualified for a futures for the second week in a row and beat the 7th seed (ranked 352) in the first round!

Re: Aussies in Challengers and Futures

USA's Sean Berman has qualified for the 10 k tournament in Turkey where he will meet Australian Brydan Klein. I thought Berman was Australian!!!!! Hope we have not spent too much money on him!

Re: Aussies in Challengers and Futures

Tough draw for Mitchell.

Mott has a nice draw so hopefully he can win a round.

Re: Aussies in Challengers and Futures

Ben's copped a few bad draws in Europe so far, oh well hopefully he can still pull out a win!

by the way the results from the Mexican futures are the same as last week, i guess it's just a mistake on the ITF website

Re: Aussies in Challengers and Futures

This Wagland might be a talented boy, isn't he? Good perfomance in Mexiko against Gallardo-Valles, had some good chances but could not go through in the first set when he had a couple of breakpoints.
Maybe someone from Australia can tell me something about his strenghts?
