Blake to play Peter Torebko in the first round of Mornington.

Torebko got him last week in Melbourne in 3 so hopefully Blake can get one back!

Blakes disappointing me this season. Hoped he would have gone on like some other youngsters. Losing in R1 futures...

Blake Mott

Blake from Thirroul NSW has beaten much higher ranked opponents to reach the final of the 75K Launceston. In the semis ranked #721 he has thrashed Myneni from India #175 6/1 6/4. Let's hope for a rapid rise here.

Re: Blake Mott

Well, if Gavin Van Peperzeel could make the final of the weakest $75k Challenger of them all and get a year's worth of mileage out of it, great news for Blake to replicate the feat against tougher opposition there in Lonnie.

It did seem as though he was mounting a charge up the rankings a couple of years ago as a 17/18 year old, but it stalled - it would be a good thing if he can use this to really launch into 2016. Golubev in the final is probably a bridge too far, but you never know and it's still been a fantastic week for him.

Re: Blake Mott

Mott always had the talent but just couldn't stay healthy. Hopefully he can this year and he should rise up the rankings.

I think you are being a tad hard on Gavin - won't ever be a great star in all probability, but at least he has consistently moved in the right direction (albeit slowly) over time, which is more than you can say for a number of the others in his age group!

But yes, great result so far for Blake and hope it augurs well for the year.

Re: Blake Mott

Oh, it wasn't so much a criticism of Gavin - he is a very solid Futures player and has backed up that surprise An-Ning Challenger result well enough - more a reflection that if an Aussie player in that 300+ bracket has a good week in a Challenger, it can really give them a platform to play in more events at that level than would otherwise have been the case.

When you consider that Blake's second best result at the moment is the semi final of a $25k ($15k as was) that isn't coming off until the Roland Garros ranking period, this has really given him a platform that we hope he can take advantage of...much like Van Peps has nudged his way into some lesser Challengers.
