Any fellow Aussies not like/neutral on, Tomic?

I personally don't like Bernard Tomic. Well, it's not really dislike him, more neutral than anything. I am certainly not a fan, not quite sure why though.

ANDRE AGASSI, MONICA SELES, JENNIFER CAPRIATI

Lleyton Hewitt, Lindsay Davenport

Pat Rafter, Mark Phillippoussis, Rafael Nadal, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Sjeng Schalken, Chris Guccione. Martina Hingis, Kim Clijsters, Serena Williams, Alicia Molik, Mary Pierce, Amanda Coetzer, Anna Kournikova.

Re: Any fellow Aussies not like/neutral on, Tomic?

There are a few. On the main board some aussies were calling him a prick, and all sorts of other names. Now I understand not being a fan of someone, but name calling like that, particularly for an 18 year old kid is over the top.

Personally I like his game. It's remeniscent more of the styles back in the 80's and 90's. It's something different from the production line of the same monotonous ball basher we've had the last decade.

As far as his attitude goes, he's been perfectly humble so far in his relations with the press at Wimbledon. Even his reaction to the aussie fans after his win against Malisse was classy. I can't comment and probably most can't on actions he has taken in the past, as we don't really know the full story of what happened in those situations. With how young he is, IMO he deserves the benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise.

Re: Any fellow Aussies not like/neutral on, Tomic?

I think a lot of the Aussie fan animosity stems from those people who encountered Tomic when he was a junior and his father John ran his show more closely, ranting and raving at officials, shouting across courts at umpires and opponents, calling lines from 3 courts away. It was quite a show and not very pleasant to witness or be victim of. It will take quite awhile for those persons to warm to the maturer Bernard of today.
At the moment, with all the support from TA, John is toe-ing the line, but who knows in the future? Maybe a time-bomb ticking? or now that Bernard has come of age and potential he will be ok?

his father made sure that he had a bad-boy persona. I do not like the hysteria around him by the press. Given how his father was near, Bernard can not stand all this

Thats how I see it TA doing its best to shove him down our throats before he had even done anything!
WC everytime you turn around, very little court time playing very few tournaments.

Just have to wait and see if this streak will continue or just a fluke.....

Re: Any fellow Aussies not like/neutral on, Tomic?

Wimbledon was the first time for to get any idea of his personality.
Yes he has been getting too many wild cards, which is annoying.
Yes there have been some negative incidents around him.
But neither of these really tell you if it is Tomic that is annoying or just events around him.

In interviews for Wimbledon, I thought he did quite well. Came across as a reasonable young guy. It is really difficult to remain unaffected by the results and hype of his junior career, and there is a sometimes annoying degree of self confidence required to reach the top level. But on balance, he seems quite ok.
