I believe that's the case, as I said in the GM thread:

Duckie also has not had too many wins over top 100 players, or previously ranked top players. Still he is ,looking good ranked at 138. He has done well to get there.

James will play Nieminen in the first round. Tough match up but if he wins he will be rewarded with a match up against Federer.

Great opportunity here for James. Time for him to step up and beat higher ranked players.

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

Duckworth must be injured as he's going to miss the whole Australian January. This is really upsetting as he was primed to make an impact.

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

Thanks for pointing that out, but his choice not to play either Sydney or Brisbane (even if only qualifying) is baffling to say the least. Plus it says he's out of the Australian Open qualifying list.

He played in the main draw of Brisbane and lost to Nieminen. Pretty sure he's got a WC into AO as well..

the qualifying list here Qualifying Entry List (updated January 7, 2014) says he is out, but only because he has a MDWC.

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

Ignorance aside, I still think it was a mistake not to play Sydney qualifying. There just no reason not to. Either lose early and go to Melbourne, or win a few matches and get your confidence up. He was even born in Sydney.

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

Does anyone know why he didn't play qualies? I agree it doesn't make sense. He isn't "too good" to play qualies.

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

Hilarious to hear the Australian commentator labelling him the mitchell johnson of tennis when he served a 213 kph serve at federer in the first round

A guy with actual class like Federer usually beats guys like Duckworth and Mitchell Johnson
