Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

Will move up to around #200 in next week's rankings. He's in with a shot at that Roland Garros wild card. Well it makes sense to me as he is more of a clay courter than the other main contenders and has proven he can win Slam matches.

TA are capable of anything but to choose him over Millman would be a bit off.

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

^I disagree. Duckworth has played a much greater percentage of his matches on clay. TA should take surface ability more into account with these special wild cards. At this rate, Millman will be front and centre for the US Open wild card. I think that would be fair and give Australia a better chance of another main draw win. But obviously results between now and then could make a big difference too.

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

at this rate, Millman won't even need a wild card for the US Open. as for the French both would be good choices, it might come down to whoever has better results leading into it. just as long as Matt "Eight-match-losing-streak-on-clay-dating-back-to-2010" Ebden doesn't get it i'll be happy.

I am almost certain it's going to someone else....

Failure is not falling down, but refusing to get back up.

I would hope Millman be able to make the US Open main draw directly. Duckworth has played more matches on the clay but have the results been good enough? They have been ok but to me it doesn't suggest that he has a big advantage on te surface to ignore the huge ranking difference.

Yeah, it's also possible that they'll just choose Krygios instead.

One often unconsidered reason to choose Nick is that other higher ranked players will get into qualifying and therefore still have a shot at the main draw. I don't think Nick will have a chance to improve his rank enough before the entry deadline to get into the qualifying draw directly.

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

Back onto Duckworth - who won his first round at the Itajai Challenger, beating wild card entrant Hadlich easily 61 62 but then, after a days break, collapsed to Portuguese gun Gastao Elias (Pepe) 67(5) 61 61.
James' serving was well below acceptable, at 35% for the match, and he was lucky to win the 1st set after saving 4 out of 5 bp's. Elias saved 3 of 3 bp's in 3rd set but Duckie faced 8 bp's, Elias converting 3 of them.
Hope Duckie is not carrying an injury.

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

Duckworth must be ok, he made the doubles final. Actually he won the doubles final in Itajai - playing with Frenchie Pierre Herbert.
Well done James.

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

And is in the main draw of Santos this week. Takes on WC Caio Silva. Capdeville/Mektic in the second round. And in the doubles draw with Herbert again the play wildcards Allan Gomes Oliveria and again Caio Silva.
