I don't know how anyone, but you wear out my brain with its your Matosevic. Marinko not won the match on the majors, he is 27 years old and had lost all their matches, even Guccione has a victory, even Kyrgios has a victory. Stat on Majors: Hewitt 144-56, Tomic 20-16. Guccione 5-14. Kyrgios 1-2. Matosevic 0-11.

Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

Gooch is in the team because of his combination with Rusty in doubles and rightly so. I do agree that Marinko could feel hard done by here but if he did play off with Nick and lost then well... He isn't any good under pressure and if he couldn't get it done in a practice match then I guess we can't really afford to risk him...

Feel for Marinko but he simply can't get it done on the biggest stages under pressure...

Life is an orange and you're just a little pip.

Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

Rafter said if Janowicz withdrew his tactic would change and he would go in for the kill early.
I question this as Tomic has had some average results, the chance of Kubot pulling an upset exists.
Also we are no doubt the underdogs in the doubles, we have a good chance, but we are the underdogs.
If both of these things happen we're looking at Lleyton playing a live fifth rubber and we all have nightmares of the Stebe match after Hewitt has played 3 days in a row.
I think Marinko should have been picked and stick with the tactic of playing him on Day 1 and keeping Hewitt fresh for day 2 and 3.

Ausie - you've got to look at recent form.
Based on your logic maybe they should bring back Phillipousis, he did better than Marinko in the majors....

And imo Dmitry has it spot on with Gooch, and the Aussie tendency for choosing their mates. Gooch is not even firing properly in the doubles at the moment - Peers is the form doubles player at the moment, even getting good results with Lamie Murray, whose results were patchy before the two of them teamed up - beating the Brian brothers to win an ATP Doubles title - anyone would like that on their recent tennis CV.

Matosevic mentally not very consistent player. In this him a huge minus, he plays poorly on a major just because of mental problems. If Janowicz played, a Matosevic would be sacrificed, that would not overload Hewitt, but in this team of Poland does not make sense to saved Hewitt and Kyrgios should debut on Sunday, Tomic and Kyrgios is the future of this country.

I don't question the fact that the Aussies do like to pick their mates but that doesn't change the fact that Hewitt/Gooch are our most prolific doubles pairing at the moment, especially in DC. Sticking in a untested pairing with Peers coming in would be way to risky...

Yep, you don't go sticking in someone, that's not how doubles works. You can't argue the results Hewitt/Guccione have had.

Although should be looking at a way to try and keep Lleyton away from playing doubles. And one solution could be trying to work Peers into the team, maybe with Marinko who has had solid results on the doubles circuit. But you can't just expect Pat to dump them into a World Group playoff tie, this is what they should be thinking for 2014 and beyond

Finally someone with some sense

You could put Hewitt with Peers/Hanley/Ball/anyone and they'd do pretty well because Hewitt is still a great doubles player.

I know Hewitt just made the US Open R4, and had 3 TOP 10 wins this year - but I think after his next injury he could focus on doubles and do really well. There's no shame in it, and I just don't think his body can sustain singles competition much longer.
