Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

Ebden is a walking bye on clay and Pat obviously doesn't trust Matosevic, so he was left with no choice but to pick Tomic.

Gooch will play doubles with Lleyton for sure.

I think we will lose to Germany on clay.

What the fuckery is going on here?

Matosevic being left out of the tie? I'm absolutely shocked. STUNNED. Sorry, but our stocks aren't good enough to be pissing of players to 'send a message'. What has Guccione done to earn his spot? Apart from be Lleytons lapdog on tour all year round. Surprised Luczak didn't get a call either then I guess. What the fuckworth is Duckworth doing there?

If behaviour or attitude is the reason for this omission then There's NO WAY that Marinko's attitude, or anyones attitude, could be worse than Bernard

Guccione is a very good doubles player, it is possible that the Germans put to play a doubles of Stebe / Becker, I will remind you, that at Wimbledon, Hewitt / Guccione won this German doubles. Duckworth on clay can be useful, at least it's better than Ebden and Matosevic.

Duckworth better than Ebden or Matosevic?

Matosevic is a better doubles player than Guccione, but Lleyton likes to play with Guccione.

Ebden on clay played very bad, best surface Mato - hard. Why change, Hewitt/Guccione at the moment in Davis Cup is not lost, they have won in the last year, Federer/Wawrinka, this year Zimonjic/Peya and Stebe/Becker.

Matosevic should have a spot over Guccione and Duckworth.

Guccione should have 5th spot over Duckworth.

I think Duckworth's spot is more for just for experience even though Pat made that weird comment saying he was a shot of making the team, there is no way he would put him in there.

Guccione is there because him and Lleyton make a great doubles team and have had great results. he would have a much better doubles ranking if he was playing more often on the tour but injuries and trying to get that singles ranking has been more of his priority (although his singles career looks about over). Guccione is a fine chocie.

Ebden over Matosevic has my head spinning. I wonder if Pat even watched the Cilic match, he's trying to find players who fight hard for his country after Tomic's disaster the other night. He took a guy who is arguably a level or two above him to 5 sets and had an incredibly tight tussle in the 5th. Puts all his effort on court to me and then you look at Ebden's clay results and even his form on the hardcourts this American swing and you just have to wonder what drugs Pat is taking.

The thing about TA Davis Cup is that it is a "closed" old boys association...

Looking at Ebden's results on clay in comparison to Mato's, I think he can consider himself fortunate to be in the squad ahead of Matosevic.

Tomic - 19 years, Ebden - 24 years, Duckworth - 20 years, Matosevic - 27 years, Guccione - 27 years

Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

I find it just unbelievable that Guccione is in the team. The fact that Rafter and everyone want to build the culture of hard work - threatening to leave Tomic out, saying he needs to pull his finger out - then they put Guccione in? He's ranked outside the TOP 500 in singles. What the feck?

And they are a boys club. Jobs for mates, cheap apartments, trips everywhere. The whole thing is corrupt, and it started with the dictatorship that was Geoff Pollard.

what's the single ranking? At the beginning of this century, Woodbridge and Woodforde had little singles ranking, Guccione good doubles player, who has already been scanned, before such an important match, none experiment will be. I don't understand the problem, well, will be Matosevic in the team, what's the difference, it would be sitting on the bench and clapped her hands, he will not play, if the match will be on hard, then it may be some chances for him, would participate.

As has been said in this thread a few times already he is in there to play doubles with hewitt, they make a great combination when they are playing, they just don't play very often hence why his doubles ranking isn't as high as what it could be. That's an easy decision to put Guccione in the team.

Ebden over Matosevic is the puzzle.
