Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

Australia will know next week if they are drawn with Canada, Italy (both at home), Switzerland, Germany, Russia, Sweden, Japan (all away) or Kazakhstan (host decided by coin toss).

we can play on equal terms with all, except Switzerland.

Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

if Australia doesn´t play Switzerland then they should do well and advance to the World Group in my opinion.... there should by some trouble only with Germany and Russia if I don´t count Switzerland...

btw. congratz on winning the tie against South Korea!

Will be a tough one yet again, especially if they decide to put it on clay. Hopefully Bernie can make some inroads on the surface this upcoming swing.

We will play on clay, that's for sure. When we choose clay against Argentina we also will against Australia.
I think it's a tough draw for both. The Aussies have to play away which is always a disadvantage of course plus it will be on clay because we have some decent clay courters unlike Sweden (who have nobody on any surface though atm) or Israel (don't know if you would've had to play away) for example.
For Germany it's a tough draw simply because we were seeded. We could have also had a home tie versus Chile or Uzbekistan for example.

Federer |Söderling |most of the Germans

I also like: Wawrinka | Tsonga | Dimitrov | Isner | Gulbis |

Warm regards: 6-3 6-0 / 6-3 6-4

Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

I think it is a tough draw. Not only because of the likely surface choice, but I also wonder how much a factor an away crowd/atmosphere will affect someone like Bernard since this would be his first important away DC tie... Hopefully Lleyton will be healthy and able to play.

Rafter's comments...

Quote:
“It was a tough draw to get Germany in Germany but by no means is it not winnable,” said Rafter following the announcement.

“Sure, we will go in as underdogs, but I back our guys to produce their best when representing their country. No one thought we would even come close against Switzerland in Sydney last year.”

“Don’t underestimate how much these guys want to win their way back into the World Group. We have already started planning for the September play-off and I am excited by the prospect of taking on the Germans on what I expect will be an indoor clay court.”
