Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

I could be completely wrong and this may have just been a one-off incident, but from the way Bernard's girlfriend was talking it didn't seem to be. Posted this on tennisforum the day it happened (was just before he played Bellucci):

Quote:
Some drama in the Tomic camp. I was charging my phone in MCA, and John walked right past me with the guy in the orange top and the girl in the hat (Tomic's girlfriend?) in his players' box. The girl was half crying and almost yelling at John, saying he was getting everyone to ignore her for no reason (specifically referencing Sara and some other guy) but John kept denying it and saying "what are you talking about?" all while the guy in the orange top is trying to comfort her and calm her down. Then Sara appears out of MCA and starts talking quietly to the girl in the hat along with the guy in the orange top, and eventually she seemed to calm down before they all went inside.

Intriguing tidbit, but hard to see how it plays into DC...

Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

Can anyone tell me what the story is with Matt Reid?? He seems to follow Hewitt around like a puppy and constantly appears at all Davis Cup matches..doing what I am not sure. If he was ranked number 5 in the country then sure it would make sense. But in his case he barely plays singles and his doubles results have been haphazard at best......

Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

It seems Matt is mates with all the Aussie boys, even Kyrgios and Tomic, and his presence is a morale and enthusiasm booster.
At the tie in Sydney versus SVK, he was moving from end to end on the sidelines with one or two other guys to cheer on the Aussie player.
He is definitely close with Hewitt, and that would be his ticket to participate in each tie.
It's a good training block for Matt too which has probably assisted in his doubles ranking rise into the top 100.

Have to give full marks to Jordan Thompson for his performance winning 2 rubbers for AUS. Well done.

Brisbane's Pat Rafter Arena appeals as potential venue for @daviscup quarterfinal Australia vs USA in April on hardcourt.

Nope.

Should be Broome, Cairns, Townsville, Darwin, Hobart, Alice Springs or Mildura

It is up to the Yanks to choose and getting in and out quickly is surely going to be an influence.

Canberra has good flights and a nice new set of courts though...

Part of the deal made when we last played them in the US in 1999 - apparently we agreed to play in US instead of OZ on basis that next two ties would be here but with alternating choice of ground (but not choice of surface apparently).

Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

Same old same old team announced again - Kyrgios, Thompson, Groth, Peers.

Have to say really can't understand why Groth is till in the mix - Whittington and Polmans ranked above him in both singles both ranking wise (180, 193, 197) and in the race (where Groth is back at 303). And in doubles, the two have of course done way better this year. Would have thought either, or Jordan, would make a better partner for Peers.

And surely time to start bringing in the young blood in again, given Jasika (at long last), Mott and de Minaur all getting close to top 100 in the race....

Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

Kyrgios is capable of outstanding doubles results, in recent weeks with wins over Bopanna / Cuevas (w. Reid) and Bryan / Bryan (w. Zimonjic). Put him with top-5-Peers and there is a very capable team to beat U.S.
As much as playing Kyrgios for 3 best of 5 matches is a high work load for him, I just can't see Groth in current form being up to it in doubles over the strong options U.S have.
We'll go down unless Nick plays 3 matches, its our only hope.
