+1

I'm not quite sure why everyone is so negative about him? Made some bad decisions true, and didn't perform at tour level, but could still get there.

Re: Matthew Ebden

Also for guys like Ebden who's career may peak at around the #50 ranking mark, the amount of money he would get for Hopman cup far exceeds qualies of Brisbane or where ever.

You cant blame him for taking a nice pay check.

Agree Sammy, particularly when he is likely to spend the majority of this year playing Challengers due to his rank. No-one is criticising Pavlasek for playing?

Re: Matthew Ebden

Not to mention he is a mixed doubles slam winner, so he should be able to hold his own.

I really like Ebden and want to see him back top 100 asap, but totally understand this decision.

Re: Matthew Ebden

I'm not really sure what rankings the commentators are looking at... They said before the match Ebden was ranked 99... And in an interview the interviewer said he had made "obvious progress" in 2014... And Ebden said his goal was something like to win a few more matches and push for top 50... Right

Re: Matthew Ebden

Ebden with his first tour-level win in about 6 years against Sugita. It's amazing that he's ranked as high as 260 at the moment given he won 5 matches in the whole of 2014 (he also pocketed a solid $310k for it which almost certainly explains his scheduling decisions).

Hopefully this win is the start of a better year results-wise.

he has had it. Lost first round in Launceston to Klahn 6/0 6/4. Sad fall from grace.

Disappointing, especially that first set, but not that surprising really given form, Sugita notwithstanding. It's a long way back once you are down...
