He won in three after a big comeback. Up to around #80 next week.

Awesome work from Matthew here Watch out Marinko Matosevic........Matt is closing on on that number three spot. Lets hope he cam bag another title this week......big Sam is making his way to Asia this week and is down the bottom of the draw.....be lovely to see an all aussie final. A bit premature I know but I can always hope!

Re: Matthew Ebden

Looked like Soeda was up 6/2 4/1 and also up 3/1 in the third. Some serious fighting skills from Matt.

And hence the #2 spot. Matosevic is ranked #62 and Hewitt is ranked #61. And Hewitt has more points coming off in January. In fact, if you take off everyone's January points, Matosevic lands ahead of Tomic and Hewitt. OK, taking off points isn't always apt, but it shows that there isn't too much give at the top of Australian tennis at the moment.

Re: Matthew Ebden

Well done Matt Ebden.
A solid ending to the 2013 seasons, with one more tournament to come.
Even more telling is that these points will count towards all the Grand Slam tournaments in 2014, an added bonus, and good reason to perform throughout the year.

Now at world number 79.

Near his career high of 61 at the start of last year. This year, he was low as 137 and was at 135 about two months ago. I know I make fun of him for choking, but this has been an impressive improvement. Happy for him.

Re: Matthew Ebden

Ebden through to the semi-finals of Toyota now. This virtually assures his main draw place in all February and March US hard court events. He will then probably have to play at least some of the European clay court season, unless he wants to be incredibly naughty and play Asian hard court Challengers instead a la Lu.

Matt moves into his 6th Challenger final in the past 6 months by defeating Rola 6-4 6-4.

Re: Matthew Ebden

I look forward to observing Ebden on the main tour in 2014. This is some form he's been in. If he does well in the Australian start of the tour, he could break into the Top 50.

Yep, the next few months should be very interesting. Main tour is another step up as shown by his previous results on there.

Good Luck in the final Matty

Matt takes out the tittle with a solid 6-3 6-2 win. Great finish to the year. He is the first alternate on the list for Brisbane so will get in.

Re: Matthew Ebden

Yes! What a run. He has a legitimate chance of becomming the number Aussie in the first half of next year.

No.1...
I presume you mean

Left an important Stat out there Mr.Racket...

What an awesome end of the season for Matt Ebden. Reminds me of when he first got his ranking down. He was playing Challenger... not doing so flash, had a break and then played the end of season Aussie Futures tour and blitzed it to get his ranking down and go on the next season to get Top 100 status.
Now in 2013, he has similarly knuckled down after an indifferent ATP tour season, come and played the Challenger circuit and has come away smiling.
A good start to the year and a great 2014, with those points in the bag, now beckons.
