Re: Matthew Ebden

Yeah, looks like direct entry into AO will be a go. I know his expectations were a lot higher this year but honestly this was about mine for him, around the 100 mark. So I guess it's a pass for me

Well done Matty on winning the title

Re: Matthew Ebden

Matt ranked at 98 this morning, cracks the top 100 again and, with no points to defend for the rest of this year, should make the cut for the AO main draw.
Can't see too may other players vaulting over him, but only 60 points separates him at ATP98 (with 566 points) and Haider-Maurer at ATP113 (on 506 points). Matt may have to get another good result to ensure he remains in contention for that MD berth.

How many points do those players ranked between 99 and 113 have to defend this year:
- 9 of the list have no points to defend, Pella has 104, Gicquel 92, Ungur 85, Alejandro Gonzalez has 25, Huta Galung 22 and Kavcic 21.
Of the players ahead of him in the rankings (up to ATP82) 8 players still have points to defend, which if not defended take them back past Matt, particularly, Smyczek, Russell, Kudla, Falla and Lorenzi - so Matt is looking good compared to them - but all depends on their results for the remaining tournaments.

Way to go, well done Matt.

Re: Matthew Ebden

I wonder why he has chosen to fly to South Korea to play a 35K when he could have easily played this weeks 50K at home in Traralgon? I dont get it...we could also have done with his presence in the final.........I hate it when we have finals at home which dont feature any of our players.

He had his sisters wedding this week so took a week off to attend. Probably not a bad thing as he has had a fair workload in recent weeks. He can play out the year with the three Asian challengers.

Re: Matthew Ebden

Shock loss to Lopez-Perez today in straights - not really sure what happened there, given that he's been in great form before this week and Lopez-Perez is barely top 300. He's probably sealed his AO main draw place anyway so not much harm done

Re: Matthew Ebden

Too much cake at his sister's wedding perhaps ?
Just kidding - in Asia anything could happen, like a virus or stomach bug, or just not his day and Lopez-Perez was on...

Re: Matthew Ebden

Yokohama Challenger

Rnd 2: Matt through to QFs with a 61 63 win over Moriya (ATP177), who knocked out Matt Reid in 1st round.
Matt had a nervous 60 36 62 win over Mirza Basic (ATP 205) in the first round.
Go Matt...

It will be interesting to see how Ebden goes against Wang in the next round.

Re: Matthew Ebden

Go Matt. Keep racking up those points so you can have another crack at ATP qualifying and main draws early next year.

Re: Matthew Ebden

It is a good time of the year to rack up the points as the points will be good for entry into all the Grand Slams the next year.

Re: Matthew Ebden

Matt through to the final, and as I said in the GM thread, his late season surge will almost assure his place in the top 100 until mid-June next year.
