Re: Matthew Ebden

He has a decent San Jose draw. Sela followed by Anderson (5) or Dimitrov.

Re: Matthew Ebden

Sela will be a tough nut to crack. It may be a loooong match.

Re: Matthew Ebden

Kevin Andreson up next for Matt. If Matt can return well then he has a decent shot at beating Anderson but watching the third set today against Sela when he got broken in two consecutive service games makes you wonder. Hopefully it is just jet lag and he will be fine for tomorrow.

He is entered in the Memphis qualifying for next week so potentially he will have to fly straight from San Jose to Memphis if he makes the quarterfinal (I am presuming he will lose to Raonic). If he can beat Raonic to make the semis then he will get a secured entry into Memphis and won't have to worry about qualifying.

Matt also has a challenger semifinal to defend next week so it would be a big help to him moving forward if he could get a quarterfinal in San Jose and a second round in Memphis. Anyway if Matt beats Andreson he'll move to about 78 in the world and will be around the ranking required to make the cut for Masters series qualifying (Masters after Indian Wells and Miami).

Re: Matthew Ebden

Not that surprising considering all the travel he has done. And he is also playing doubles.

Re: Matthew Ebden

Second Round Singles, Q Finals of doubles not a bad week overall for Matt considering the travel and he played all four matches over two days....

Hopefully more wins next week...

Re: Matthew Ebden

Beat David O'Hare in the first round of qualies with a scoreline of 6-0 6-4. Will play Bobby Reynolds for a spot in the MD. Reynolds won't be the easiest match but Matt will be the favourite to progress.

Re: Matthew Ebden

A bit disappointing. Maybe he will get in as a LL.

Re: Matthew Ebden

Bad luck. Maybe the break will do him a bit of good though.

Quote:
Australian Matthew Ebden suffered a first-round straight-sets loss to Denis Istomin at the ATP event in Delray Beach, Florida on Monday.

Ebden, whose ranking has climbed to No.85 after a positive start to the year, had no answers in the crunch moments of his clash with Uzbekistan’s world No.51 Istomin, losing 6-2 6-3.

Istomin was able to save all seven break points he faced, while Ebden could only save three of six as the match finished in 78 minutes.

Ebden made his Davis Cup debut earlier this month, beating China’s Ya-Nan Ma 6-2 6-2 in the first of the reverse singles matches in the Asia-Oceania qualifying tie in Geelong.

The 24-year-old impressed many at this year’s Australian Open, exiting in the second round in a three-hour five-set loss to eventual quarterfinalist Kei Nishikori.

Re: Matthew Ebden

Matt, the No. 3 qauly seed, qualified for Indian Wells, beating Rajeev Ram 64 63 in the final round.
Indian Wells is where you must play qualifying - only two matches to win to qualify and then in the first round you are guaranteed not to face a seed. Cool...

Re: Matthew Ebden

Matt drew Igor Kunistyn in the first round. I would have Matt as slight favorite.
