Re: Matthew Ebden

Well done to Matt Ebden who has been nominated for the ATP Player Awards for 2011 for Newcomer (of the Year), along with Ryan Harrison, Milos Raonic and Bernard Tomic. It will be interesting to see who gets the award.
Oz having two players in the category is excellent...
but does reflect how bad Australia was faring in the ATP rankings.
Good on those players, of which Ebden, approaching 24 years-old, is the oldest. It pays to stick around, even when deemed too old by some.

Re: Matthew Ebden

After a few weeks off in Perth Matt departed for Paris yesterday. He is one withdrawl away from getting direct entry into Paris qualies but it doesn't end there for Matty. He has entered 100k challenger in Slovakia and Finland the following weeks after Paris. I am hoping Matt can finish the year strong and really come into 2012 with the mindset of being an ATP guy not a challenger player.

100 points from these next three weeks would put him close to top 60 so lets hope Matty can break that barrier and doesn't have so much pressure at the Brisbane International. Also his ranking after the tournament in Slovakia will be the one used to enter Brisbane and the one after the challenger in Finland will be used to enter Sydney. Lets hope both rankings are high enough to get direct entry.

He also played a couple of matches in the NTL. As expected he won his singles matches with ease.

Matty got a very tough draw in Bercy qualies, going up against Sharkko in his opener.

Re: Matthew Ebden

Matty is seeded 5th in Bratislava and takes on the Pole Michal Przysiezny in his opening round encounter. Tough field here, lets see how he does this week.

Re: Matthew Ebden

Matt beats Przysiezny 6-1 7-6(6). Would like to see Matt go deep here as his ranking after this weeks tournament will be used to enter Brisbane. He is currently at 85 in the world and this year's cut for Brisbane was 94 so theoretically Matt should make the cut but you can't rely on that. I would say a top 70 ranking would guarantee it which would require Matt to make the final this week. We shall see but I think directly getting into Brisbane will help Matt a lot. The same situation may occur next week in Finland for Sydney.

Re: Matthew Ebden

Lost 67 76 64 to Dancevic despite being up a break in that second set

Shame as it would have been great to get a few more wins here and Helsinki to try and make sydney Main Draw on his own ranking, i guess it's still possible if he does better next week!!

Hopefully he does make Brissy, that would be a good start to the year and he has had some decent results there in the past!!

Keep going Matt!

Re: Matthew Ebden

Matty is the 4th seed in Helsinki and takes on Adrian Ungur in his opening match. These challengers are always tough at the end of the season with all the fringe top 100 players trying to obtain direct entry into the AO. Hopefully Matt can end his already successful season on a positive note.
