Re: Luke Saville Cheering Thread

Awful year for Saville - one of the few young Aussies to go backwards from 2012. Hopefully he finds something in these end of year tournaments - he'd struggle to get a QWC into the AO with his recent results

Woeful result. Saville needs to kick up a gear.

So do I.
With his good Junior history, his game, his athletic build and height, he still has plenty of potential. So will get the QWC imo.
Needs to learn how to harness his skill and energy, focus on winning matches. Get that winning feeiling back. Not sure what he is doing wrong, but feel that is more likely what he is not doing right.

Re: Luke Saville Cheering Thread

At this stage, I don't think he'll get a qualifying wild card unless he performs well in the remaining Aussie Futures and Challengers. Players of his age have caught up with him, for example, Whittington and Thompson. Plus he already was granted much more than his peers, including a main draw AO wild card this year.

Re: Luke Saville Cheering Thread

I'm sure Luke's finding it tough and perhaps feeling the pressure to transition and succeed on the main tour. Hopefully 2014 will see him start to string wins together and move up the rankings.

Am I right in thinking he'll be in the WC playoff in China in November? That would be a great place to find his form again!

The wild card play-off in China is only for Asian players, the winner of which gets a wild card into the AO. There is another separate wild card playoff held at the beginning of December at Melbourne Park for the Australian players, generally for those players ranked under 250 plus others by invitation from Tennis Australia.
Imo Saville will get invited, but the list of other promising juniors is getting long now.

Yeah, that's the one I was thinking of (usually watch it) but when I googled for info I saw the Chinese one and thought that they may have moved the location to promote the whole slam of Asia-Pacific angle.

Maybe the increase in promising Australian's can help Luke in the long run. There would probably be more being made of his poor year if not for the success of other young players taking the attention. Of course, it makes it tougher for him to pick up ranking points in Australian tournaments and to get wildcards but it's probably better for him to face tough competition from within the country rather than being a big fish in a small pond and then struggling when he plays better players.

The big problem is confidence. Like you said earlier, he needs to get that winning feeling.
