We shall not be broken! Ball-Gooch Cheering Thread

If Carsten Ball and Chris Guccone ever decided to take the doubles game seriously and play upwards of 25 tournaments together what sort've ranking do you think they could establish? While it's perfectly reasonably for a 22 and 24 year old player to focus on maxxing out their potential success in a singles career. I highly doubt either of these two could achieve regular top 75 ranking in the singles game. I reckon if their main focus was doubles they could probably form a team capable of top sustainable top 10 status and become a serious weapon for Australia in Davis Cup. Your thoughts?

Re: Ball-Guccione doubles partnership. How good can they be?

I'm surprised they didn't enter the doubles draw at Lexington, I think they would have been top seed... they are close to top 100 I think. However, they both still have plenty to offer at singles at the moment, Guccione really needs a sports psychologist or something though... But I think they have a big doubles career ahead of them together.

Re: Ball-Guccione doubles partnership. How good can they be?

I think they would be regularly playing on the ATP tour for sure. It is hard to determine what sort of ranking they would have. I think at the moment though Ball seems as though he isn't that keen to play anything besides American challengers and futures and whenever Travis Rettenmeier is there he seems to pair up with him. It would be good to see Ball and Gooch team up though given how well they have played together. When you have wins over the likes of Gonzalez/Massu in a clay DC tie in Chile, the Ratiwatana twins in Thailand, Mirnyi/Ram and Fish/Querrey I think eventually you have got to consider it.

Re: Ball-Guccione doubles partnership. How good can they be?

The thing about Carsten and Chris is they have actually become very good friends over this years Australian summer. I saw them play in Brisbane together and I saw them practicing at the Australian Open together and Carsten was giving Chris shit about how he hasnt seen his gf yet and she was supposed to be there and day before but she wasn't. So being good friends I think plays in their favor a lot.

Re: Ball-Guccione doubles partnership. How good can they be?

I agree with the OP if these two focused primarily on doubles they have the potential to become a good quality doubles team. This will bring bonuses to themselves and Australia.
1) More secure financially
2) Australia will have a good Doubles team for Davis Cup

Because lets face it the Gooch won't be a top Singles player and Ball more likely then not won't be a top 50 singles player.

Re: We shall not be broken! Ball-Gooch Cheering Thread

Goochball are into the third round at Wimbledon after defeating Sa/Huss in the first round (64 62 64) and 15th seeds Melo/Soares in the second round (62 63 67(2) 76(6))

Will most likely play the Bryan Brothers in the third round unless Flemski can upset them.
