Kaden Hensel

Thought this guy deserved his own thread . Currently at career high rankings in both singles and doubles. 705 for singles and 387 for doubles. He spent the early part of his career playing in the college system at the University of Tennessee with other Aussies including John Patrick Smith and Adam Hubble who he has now formed a successful doubles combination with. Was twice an all american in his final two years at college and in his final match he played at number 1 in his team and won the last match to beat the defending champions at the time who were on a 48 match winning streak. He is a right hander although I am unsure about his height with it being listed at different amounts between 180cm and 194cm. May have grown a lot perhaps. He is currently in the Quarters of a Netherlands futures tournament on clay to go along with the other five times he has made it to the Quarters in a futures tounament this year. He has beaten higher ranked players such as Groth, Niemeyer and Klec as well this year. Also made the doubles final 8 times in futures tournaments this year with Adam Hubble except one time when he paired with Eric Chvojka. It is good to see him getting some results on the futures tour after going through the American college system.

Re: Kaden Hensel

He lost in the SF of a Great Britain grass futures tournament in three sets. A good run nonetheless and he beat Smeets on his way to the SF.

Re: Kaden Hensel

Hensel qualified for the Samarkand challenger on clay and then took out the very promising Yang of Taipei in straight sets. Great win for him but he has another difficult match against Dasnieres Veigy in the second round.

Re: Kaden Hensel

Loses to Bozoljac but still managed to win a set. Although he isn't as young as some of the other guys I reckon he should get a QWC for the Aus Open because he is capable of producing an upset or at least being competitive.

Re: Kaden Hensel

jmfo7 It is great of you to fill us in on more up upcoming players,, yes while it is great we have Tomic and Kubler coming along they are still young , it gets very boring reading
debates about who is best out of two young ones, when we have a world of AUS Players out there .
Who knows if those two like other great juniors we have had, eg Todd Ley and Reid, Nichols , Donald, the list goes on and on... i hope not but good people like you are looking far and wide to bring us news on Aus Players...

It is much more encouraging for AUS tennis when people dont put their hopes on a couple of players,, as this game can change so fast and changes so often... no one is immune to injuries, nor poor form at some stage ... you simply can not predict any one player in particular coming through in this game no matter how good they are at certain stages of development...

it is more than often the ones in AUstralia that are not predicted at a young age,,, you only have to look through old TA Mags to see that.

So Good on you and thank you for introducing a few more we can keep an eye on ....

Re: Kaden Hensel

Kaden defeated the World Number 78 and last weeks Aachen Challenger winner Rajeev Ram in straight sets. Now plays the the former US Open juniors champion Ricardas Berankis for a place in the Semis. Great two weeks.

Thanks. Yeah as good as it is to have talented juniors quite often the guys I like more are the ones that grind away on the challenger and futures tour like Sirianni and then a guy like Luczak who finally cracks the big time. The guys like Luczak and Hensel could easily have just completed their college degrees (not sure if Hensel did but Looch was half a semester away I think) and gone into a decent job but instead they chose to put this on hold and play tennis and in Looch's case he is making a bit of money out of it now. And yeah you are right about young players getting injured. You only have to look at guys like Todd Reid to see that all it takes is an illness or injury to derail a career. Or in some cases it may just be not developing physically.

Into the semis of the US Futures. Beat big serving South African Fritz Wolmarans in the Quarters who had just beaten Millman. Now plays Ouellette for a place in the final.
