Re: Greg Jones Cheering Thread

This is great for Greg. Very capable of winning a match at least. If he's on he could even qualify. Go Jonesie!

Re: Greg Jones Cheering Thread

Yeah good to see him make the cut at last.
He has had an up and down year so far with his results - some sublime, others pathetic. Needs to be more consistent to progress.

And got the second set too...
Wins 63 64, against No.5 seed Rajeev Ram (ATP118) - not a shabby result. Served well - at 66% with a high percentage win rate for 1st serves. Did not drop a service game in the match, so all round good play.
Hope he can back that up with a second round win, needs to perform consistently.

Bummer. Another close match against the top seed. Jonesie really does cop some of the worst draws.

Re: Greg Jones Cheering Thread

Jonesie won his 1st hard court Futures title, with a come from behind 36, 75, 61 win over Jordan Thompson at Sydney Tennis Centre, Homebush today. He recovered from a 36, 2-4 deficit in the 2nd set, to claw his way back into the match and then break Thompson at 5-5, to win the set 7-5. Two breaks of serve and two long deuce games to hold saw Jonesie take the advantage in the 3rd set and lead 4-0, winning the 3rd set 6-1.
A good week for Jonesie which will harvest him 27 points, similar to JP Smith's result in the Canadian Futures, which will see Jonesie's ranking get below 230 hopefully.
With no points to defend this year Jonesie has some upside if he can get some good results in the last few months of this year, and is guaranteed entry into AO Open qualies next year, so will not have to rely on a WC from TA, which he did not even get last year.

Ranked at 227 he will make the qualies cut, but he was a noticeable absentte from the Brisbane qualies, where he would have easily made the cut.
Is he still injured, Will he play in the AO qualies?
