Re: Greg Jones Cheering Thread

No clue how Jones has won this match, but still great to see another in that middle aged group doing well!

I didn't see it but I'm sure he was a far way from 'absolute filth'.

Re: Greg Jones Cheering Thread

Another great fight by Jones. Held serve well in the 1st set, in breezy weather, not giving up a break-point opportunity but forcing Melzer to save a setpoint at 5-6.
He then saved three set points in the TB, two on Melzer's serve, then won the tie-break.
Came from 40-0 down to break Melzer in the 2nd set, to get to 2-1, and then immediately went 0-40 down, an opportunity for Melzer to break back, but a good point followed by two aces got Jones back to deuce, and to hold to go up 3-1.
He broke Melzer again for 5-2 then served out the match to love.
Jones again held his nerve well.

wasn't expecting a scoreline like this at all, especially after the first match in quallies!! happy his year is off to a good start, on his day he is much better than his ranking as he proved today.

Jonesie was advised last week by TA that he would not be getting a WC into the AO qualies...
in their wisdom

After the way the year went, can you blame them?

Even in that 5 set match with Dolgopolov, while it was a good effort to get it to 5 sets, it was all Dolgo that gave him the 2 sets and Jones didn't show much game at all. His play in Auckland this week has seemed to improved tenfold and hopefully he can play this sort of tennis through 2013 and the results should come. Some of the shotmaking against Melzer was actually quite impressive.

Re: Greg Jones Cheering Thread

I was watching the match on streaming and the Italian guy went off about a line call and threw three towels from his chair to about the middel of the court. My 11 year old daughter thought it was so funny....i was happy to both see Greg beat this idiot and also that he was made to pick up the towels himself.
