Re: John "the Mailman" Millman Cheering Thread

Unsurprisingly really, John's winning streak comes to an end with an epic 6-7(6) 6-4 6-7(4) loss to Karen Kachanov in the second round. While he certainly didn't tank (the match went for almost 2:45!), I think his body will be fairly relieved that he now only has a doubles match or two with Saville to get through before the US Open!

Still, a fantastic little period for Millman that has opened the door to ATP level for him at last. Of the 320 or so points he needed before the end of the year to hold onto that Top 100 ranking, he has found 198 of them already - work remaining to do, but the opportunity for some top tier wins has now presented itself.

Re: John "the Mailman" Millman Cheering Thread

Yeah - well done John, but he should of won the match - served for the match at 5-4 in the third, but the body was tired.
Now for a good performance at the US Open

Tomic, Matosevic, Groth, Jones, JP Smith, Matty Reid, Barton, Duckworth, Whittington, Kubler, Kyrgios, Bolt, Kokkinakis, Polansky and James Ward
Go Aussie

Not the worst draw for John at the US Open. Stakhovsky has his days but I think John can get past him

RANKINGS...Singles: 19 (CH:18) ...Doubles: 139 (CH: 87)

John can't get by Stakhovsky, losing in four sets 16 63 67(3) 46.
Not the best result for John

Tomic, Matosevic, Groth, Jones, JP Smith, Matty Reid, Barton, Duckworth, Whittington, Kubler, Kyrgios, Bolt, Kokkinakis, Polansky and James Ward
Go Aussie

Disappointing result, I was hopeful. All the same, great to see him in md on ranking, and still the doubles to go.

Re: John "the Mailman" Millman Cheering Thread

And John had four set points in the third on Stakhovsky's serve, and couldn't take any - a perfect illustration of the difference between the Challenger and ATP levels, I think, and what John is facing as he attempts to transition upwards.

It certainly wasn't a crushing defeat, though, and he will be playing ATP in Metz and presumably one of Shenzhen or KL where he is a top alternate. If he doesn't get anywhere, back to Challengers it will undoubtedly have to be to find those 122 points still required to keep Top 100 status...

Damn. Thought he was good chance in that one. Did he play too safe?

Thanasi Kokkinakis is doing exactly the same thing, only St Petersburg that week instead of Metz.

This indicates to me that John will probably be the DC orange boy again in Glasgow...

Hmm, hadn't noticed he'd dropped out - originally entered with Becker...guess they all plan to decamp somewhere (not Glasgow based on Kokk's comments) to train.
