Re: John "the Mailman" Millman Cheering Thread

Good win by Millman. Jones did not return well and attempts at passing shots were poor.

Re: John "the Mailman" Millman Cheering Thread

i was sitting right next to the court on the baseline and it was interesting to hear the difference in what John and Greg were saying to themselves. John was always positive saying "come on, concentrate, watch the ball", stuff like that and never said anything negative. Greg was almost the complete opposite, complaining how everything was slow, the balls, the court, Millmans's serve! a few f-bombs too but the umpire chose to ignore that. John has a great attitude and really looks keen to get back to where he was before his injuries last year, and he is definately on the right track so far.

Lost the 1st set against the attacking Feeney, but was able to get it done 6-7 6-3 6-2, either Groth or Istomin next. Wonder how serious Denis will take this event.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Grothy too good 7-5 6-4. John served for the set at *5-3, but Groth relaxed went for broke and won 6 games in a row.

Off to Caloundra now.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

How was John's attitude when he was losing, SammyC?
It is easier to look focussed when you are ahead, harder when trailing...

Re: John "the Mailman" Millman Cheering Thread

even when it was close in the first set Jones was still more negative that John. the main difference i noticed in the first set was when Greg missed shots he would complain and get down on himself, where John would just tell himself to re-focus and say a few come ons. as you said, it's easier to be more positive when you're winning, but John was positive the whole match compared with Jones who got down on himself very easily.
