AO Wildcards and Playoff

TA has 5 wildcards to award to aussie players presumably! One for the playoff winner and four others. Wonder who is in line?

Re: AO Wildcards and Playoff

I love this time of the year. Showcases the depth (or lack of depth) of Aussie tennis.

What about Rameez Junaid? I will put him in instead of Millman on Azza's list and I would think that Tomic will be in there somewhere...........but I think his dad has put paid to his main draw chances.

NO Tomic? He's not MD material but qualies? (if the ITF don't suspend him!)

Re: AO Wildcards and Playoff

Well I would only give WC to someone who has a chance of significantly improving their ranking. Nobody DESERVES a WC, most players of other countries don't receive such handouts for big events,

My five directs would be:

Luczak
Klein
Ball
Jones
Lindahl

ok People will disagree but I think they are the five with the biggest upside around the top 400.

Smeets/Groth deserve it more but as I said, nobody actually deserves a MD berth in a GS so if you wanna come from that perspective then do so (and I'm sure TA will anyway)

Tomic should have completed his match against Matosevic. Now his chances of getting a MD WC or QWC are all but over

I still believe he will get a QWC but I do agree that the incident has put paid to his chances of gaining a main draw wildcard

Re: AO Wildcards and Playoff

Looking at the AO Playoff list, Junaid, Lindahl, Coelho and Feeney are absent even though they entered the event. I'm very surprised. Looks like TA are really focused on giving chances to junior boys, and the ones who missed out will have slim chances for a WC this year if they weren't even selected for the playoff.

Re: AO Wildcards and Playoff

Verryth made the playoff!
Hopefully if he can surprise a few people next week, he could sneak in for a AO QWC.

Don't tell me, I know that the chances of this happening are like 1083748912817402 to 1.

These four will just have to win three matches in qualifying! I think Mark Verryth and all the young guys in the playoff will also get wildcards into AO Qualies. Lots of aussies got spots in previous years.
