Re: The Mighty MM

Marinko comes from a set down to beat Robin Haase, who was seeded.
A good result for Marinko.
Must have continued to play just as well as he played last week.

Now has a real chance of progessing, facing the winner of the Theim/Lacko match.

Re: The Mighty MM

Crazy to think that Matosevic could be the number Aussie player at next year's AO. Even if he loses every match from here on out he still has a shot.

Thiem or Lacko next so good shot at a QF birth.

Would be awesome if he was able to do it and cap off what has been an amazing year.

For a "Stats" person - did you deliberately leave the "number" out?

Presumably that is No. 1.

It's amazing most Australians won't know our no.1 come AO time. I have this dicsussion with a few of my friends (who are just general sport fans) and mentioned Matsoevic and they barely heard of him.

Really hope MM can get through his 2nd rounder.

Re: The Mighty MM

Yeah I've had the same discussion with people who play tennis and who watch the occassional tennis match, Slams and Master, and the have not heard of Matosevic or Ebden and would not have a clue who they are.
Tennis in Australia is promoted only to tennis fanatics - i.e. on the web-site or through tennis forums - and not enough to the general public.
Such a pity, and such a missed opportunity to promote a great game.

Re: The Mighty MM

If the media would stop gushing over Hewitt and Tomic then they might be better known.

I remember watching Marinko's doubles match at AO this year (with Ebelthite?) and it was packed and the crowd was excellent......... okay it was me making majority of the noise

Oops! LOL my bad.

2012 countable point gained:
Tomic 805
Matosevic 775 (Vienna R16 to be played)

But Matosevic doesn't have any points to come off before AO in 2013 and Tomic has 90 from Brisbane (to be replaced by 20 from Barcelona). So MM is 40 points ahead at this stage.

I'm really following this because I'm curious to see how the Australian media handle it if and when it happens.

Re: The Mighty MM

Marinko battles past WC Dominic Thiem and now, in the 3rd round, faces No. 1 seed Del Potro, who had a big 3-setter in his 2nd round against Daniel Brands (3 tie-breaks - Brands must have been serving big and in).

Re: The Mighty MM

IIRC he played well against JMDP last time, unless I'm thinking of someone else.

Hopefully he's tired, or he withdraws He's a chance...
