Close match. I see that fellow 1993 Aussie player Andrew Mcleod got his first men's ranking point this week by winning his first round.

Re: Jason Kubler Cheering Thread

Kubler moves up to #2 in juniors, matching Tomic's career high.

Re: Jason Kubler Cheering Thread

Wow, he is only 7.5 points away from becoming the world number 1 junior and the current world number 1 is the defending Roland Garros champion. The problem though is unless Kubler has a strong result at Roland Garros than the winner (pressuming it is not Kubler) will jump over Jason in the rankings and Jason will not be number one.

I hope though, at some point this year, Kubler will be number 1 in juniors. It is very likely Kubler will be the number 1 seed at Wimbledon in juniors which is very exciting.

Re: Jason Kubler Cheering Thread

My understanding is if Kubler makes the Quarters at the G1 in Belgium next week in either the singles or the doubles he will take top spot.

Baker (USA) - Bedene (SLO) - Bellucci (BRA) - Berta (SWE) - Cuevas (URU) - Domijan (USA) - Ebden (AUS) - Estrella (DOM) - Grigelis (LTU) - Guccione (AUS) - Heliovaara (FIN) - Kavcic (SLO) - King (BAH) - Kontinen (FIN) - Kubler (AUS) - Lajovic (SRB) - Matosevic (AUS) - McGee (IRE) - Millman (AUS) - Mitchell (AUS) - Nielsen (DEN) - Nieminen (FIN) - Paire (FRA) - Udomchoke (THA)

Re: Jason Kubler Cheering Thread

So it means he only needs to win one doubles match or two singles matches next week. I could be wrong though.

Baker (USA) - Bedene (SLO) - Bellucci (BRA) - Berta (SWE) - Cuevas (URU) - Domijan (USA) - Ebden (AUS) - Estrella (DOM) - Grigelis (LTU) - Guccione (AUS) - Heliovaara (FIN) - Kavcic (SLO) - King (BAH) - Kontinen (FIN) - Kubler (AUS) - Lajovic (SRB) - Matosevic (AUS) - McGee (IRE) - Millman (AUS) - Mitchell (AUS) - Nielsen (DEN) - Nieminen (FIN) - Paire (FRA) - Udomchoke (THA)

Re: Jason Kubler Cheering Thread

Something I just noticed about Jason.

If you look at him in this picture you can see that Jason is taller than Pat Cash, Pat Cash stands at 6'0 so Jason would have to be 6'0 or 6'1. This is important because I remember not long ago worrying about his height and whether he would be taller enough to play pro tennis. 6'1 is definitely a good height for tennis, in fact it is probably the ideal height for a tennis player. So now with a senior ranking of 801 and a junior ranking of 2 (potentially 1 next week) Jason seems to be a massive prodigy for us.

If he reaches number one he will get to play whatever future event he wants around the world regardless of the entry list. I hope Jason stays in Europe after Wimbledon to play some more futures before coming back to Australia in August for the Aussie futures. I guess it would be fair to say now that the wildcard TA gave him was not such a waste and he has obviously learned from the whole experience of a Grand Slam. Come on Koobs, do us proud.

Good to see. With his build as well he will have absolutely no troubles developing physically just fingers crossed it won't give him any injury troubles.

As was said at the time Kubler's WC was a ridiculous decision which was motivated by TA own desires to reap the rewards that would come if Kubler managed to fluke a win. There is nothing smart about putting a 16 year old who didn't even have a ranking into the MD of a GS so they can be embarrassed by a guy like Ljubicic. Especially when there are other players more deserving of it. If Kubler's recent performances can be attributed to anything it is the time he spent in Spain.

Think about it, how many other Australians that did not get wildcards would've won a set off Ljubicic anyway? I would say maybe Sam Groth. Yes I agree that training in Spain with Mantilla probably taught Kubler a lot on the clay but you honestly believe that experiencing a main draw Grand Slam has not built up his passion to be professional, even just a little?

I think playing in your first Grand Slam main draw makes players want to do well outside the Slams so they can play every slam every year. Hopefully he can gain the number 1 junior ranking soon, that would be nice.

It's the way in which Ljubicic won. Ljubicic did it extremely comfortably and said after the match that Kubler should not be at this level yet. It might have built up his passion to be a professional a little bit but a match like that can easily have the opposite effect as we have seen before. Being thrashed in front of family and friends and an Australian Public who remember Tomic's and Hewitt's performances at the same age can easily have a bad impact. Just look at his early exit in the juniors and how he lost to Berman in straights. He wasn't in great form but a month and a half earlier before being thrown in the deep end Kubler accounted for Berman in straights.

IMO exposing a 16 year old with senior results like that to an environment like that with high risk but little reward is not worth it especially when you have a guy like Ebden who is more than capable of winning a round if he was given the right draw.

Re: Jason Kubler Cheering Thread

Very true about Ebden, he really was given an ugly draw. Monfils was always going to win that, hope Ebden can play well all year then come back next year and win a few matches in Australia.

Re: Jason Kubler Cheering Thread

Kubler partnered Duckworth to a close doubles victory in Charleroi. Would that get him the number 1 rank?
