Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Was hoping that he could do a bit better than that. Hopefully he can recapture some of his old form soon.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Anyone know why he pulled out of the semis of the Sydney AMT event? Hope he isn't injured again.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

He is definetly not injured. He is in France in the moment playing in a challenger where he has made the semis. Coming through qualifying and not dropping a set so far, he seems to be in good form.

Ramírez Hidalgo up next, who will be tough on clay. I think Sam has a big chance to win this challenger. If he does somehow win it, he would actually get his ranking inside the top 200 suprisingly enough. Although that won't last long because he has quite a few points to defend next week.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Probably was precautionary or had a niggle as he wouldn't have pulled of the semis of a $10k tournament for the sake of it. A nice surprise to see him turning his results around on clay although being indoor helps him and he has had a nice draw. He also got drafted for the KC Explorers in the WTT. He didn't get picked up till the last round but it's good to see him get to play some team tennis.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Close three set loss. Now off to Johannesburg. Hopefully he can keep the form up as the tournament is a 100k challenger and the high altitude will very much suit his game.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam wins in the first round of a Greek Challenger Tournament with a 64 36 62 win over Lammer. He won the first set after getting a break late into the first set. Then in the second set got broken at 2-2 but then broke back immediately after a Lammer Double Fault at 30-40. Lammer continued the sequence of breaks by breaking back straight away and later on closed the set out with a Groth Double Fault. Groth then got off to a flying start in the third set and broke in the first game and never looked back. Broke Lammer again at 4-2 and then served it out.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam went down to Muller 75 63. Had his chance in the first set before Muller broke back. First serve percentage was only 45% and he served 8 double faults but the conditions were windy.

Baker (USA) - Bedene (SLO) - Bellucci (BRA) - Berta (SWE) - Cuevas (URU) - Domijan (USA) - Ebden (AUS) - Estrella (DOM) - Grigelis (LTU) - Guccione (AUS) - Heliovaara (FIN) - Kavcic (SLO) - King (BAH) - Kontinen (FIN) - Kubler (AUS) - Lajovic (SRB) - Matosevic (AUS) - McGee (IRE) - Millman (AUS) - Mitchell (AUS) - Nielsen (DEN) - Nieminen (FIN) - Paire (FRA) - Udomchoke (THA)

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Damn and he was a set and a break up. Must be a hard loss for him to take but at least he played well.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam has retired from his tournament in California with a calf muscle injury. He could be out for some time apparently.

Grothie spotted watching Jarka courtside at Wimbledon. Good way to spend your recovery time.
