Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam looks like has has bounced back well. He is into the final qualifying round of the ATP Newport tournament on grass. His first serve is firing when it goes in, only lost 2 out of 57 points when it has gone in. He plays Stadler in the final round which will be his hardest match but it looks like he has a good chance.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Groth qualified and has a beautiful draw following the withdrawal of Mardy Fish. Plays Ricardo Mello in the first round and then either qualifier Falla or lucky loser Ram in the second round. If he could get through to the QF he would most likely play either Levine or Petzschner who he would again have a good chance against. Hopefully he can keep firing and win a few matches in the MD.

Baker (USA) - Bedene (SLO) - Bellucci (BRA) - Berta (SWE) - Cuevas (URU) - Domijan (USA) - Ebden (AUS) - Estrella (DOM) - Grigelis (LTU) - Guccione (AUS) - Heliovaara (FIN) - Kavcic (SLO) - King (BAH) - Kontinen (FIN) - Kubler (AUS) - Lajovic (SRB) - Matosevic (AUS) - McGee (IRE) - Millman (AUS) - Mitchell (AUS) - Nielsen (DEN) - Nieminen (FIN) - Paire (FRA) - Udomchoke (THA)

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sams got 26 points to defend next week and then another 10 at the end of this week. So if Sam wins one match at Newport he will gain 32 points which should be enough to keep him around the 250 region until US Open qualies which I'm sure Sam will want to play. I wish him all the best because I think he is one of few Australians that could genuinely play ATP tournaments every week.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam was leading Mello 7-5, 0-3 before rain caused play to stop. He is first on court two in todays OOP to finish off his match.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Looks like the interruption came at a good time. Hopefully he comes out pumped and can get an early break back.

There must be more rain because this match still has not been completed!

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

They reckon they finished it on Tuesday, Sam won 7-5 3-6 6-3. Rajeev Ram is next for Sam who beat Sam 6-4 6-4 earlier this year. Lets hope he can make the quarterfinals here and then you never know how far he will go.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

If Sam beats Ram he will move up to about 230 in the world, which is his previous Career High, and even with a loss will move to around 243.

What has he been up too does anyone know. After so much travel this year he must be exhausted so a good rest must be in order.
