Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Nice win by Groth in the second round against Kumantsov who was coming of the Sunrise Challenger where he beat Becker and Levine and a futures final where he retired injured.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Into the quarter finals now against Nathan Thompson which is also winnable. Nathan is a lovely guy and a very handy player but at his best Samuel should come through with a win. The clay court season in Spain was a bit of a disappointment but he seems to have found some confidence again and he believes he is hitting the ball well which is great.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

And Sam won the final after Witten retired. Great week and hopefully he can go and do well in the challenger this week.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam has continued his good form and has made the semis of the Baton Rouge challenger where he has a winnable match against Rajeev Ram.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

A nice little add on to this win for Sam is that he has gained Special Entry in to a Mexican challenger next week as he was not ranked high enough for direct entry and would not be able to play qualifying now that he is in the semifinals.

I think Sam can beat Ram but if he runs into red hot Matosevic in the final I think he is going down.... He will most probably re-enter the top 250 after this result which is nice.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam has started to find some form in a big challenger in Korea, unfortunately hes run into his points that he gained last year and needs to make at least semis here to defend his points from this time last year. Faces Udomchoke in the quarters now, a winnable match considering some of Danai's losses this season. If Sam can win this tournament (which I don't think will happen) he moves to around 206 in the world which I think is the sort of spot in rankings I believe he deserves. More points to defend in the coming weeks as well so hopefully he can make a run in Uzbekistan next week as well.
