Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

And Sam goes down to Sektic. As Chris said he needs to won these type of matches.
Sam's serve percentage was good 1st set, which he won, and then pooh in the 2nd set, which let Sektic in, with just one break in the set, to win the 2nd set.
Sektic served at an exceptional 80% for set 2 & 3 and Sam was done.
Another pity...

Fingers crossed he can blast him off the court with his serving.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Well done Sam.
Not sure how he got to play a qualifier (Skugor) instead of the No.2 seed Ram. If Ram pulled out Sam should have played a licky loser??
Sometimes you get lucky...
Now plays another qulaifier but this time it is defending champion Zivkovic, who had to qualify!
Strange he did not get a WC...

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam and JP Smith are into another doubles final after a 4-6 7-5 10-7 in the semis of An-Ning over Bolt and Statham. I saw the first set and a bit before the feed acted up. Sam's serve would obviously be a weapon in any format, but aside from power he hits the right spins/slices and angles with it to set up easy volleys for his partner. Heading for the top 100 in the doubles rankings now.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Go Smith & Groth - just a pity they had to meet Bolty & Rubin in the semis and not the final.
Take out the final now JP - need to catch Peersie in the rankings (doubles that is).

That's a great result for Sam. Plays a qualifier next.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam won 6-4 7-6(4) today. And his back in the top 200 of the rankings. He will need to bring his best to beat Bogomolov Jr tomorrow.

If he serves well and puts pressure on Bogomolov, he will win.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

The big serving Groth snares the 1st set tie-break 7-4 but the big muscled (where did they come from ?) Bogomolov hits back and down Groth in three, winnin 67 64 62.
A pity...

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Big serving Grothie, partnered by Queenslandr JP Smith took out the double title in Kun-Ming, winning 64 61. It will give both their dubs rankings a boost.
