Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Groth wins 6-3 6-4. Good to see him beating players ranked higher then him.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

It was Cook's first match of the year but it was still a nice win for Sam. He went up a break in the first set but got broken back after sending down a few double faults which led him to hit a ball out of the court but he managed to go back up a break to claim the set and despite becoming talkative with the umpire at the start of the second he still managed to close the match out. Next up is Jan Hajek.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

No incentive for Hajek to fix the match today so he defeats Groth 76 75. Sam sent down 25 aces but also 8 double faults. Next tournament for Sam will probably be the Dallas Challenger where is the 4th alt for the main draw.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

The Grothhawk had a couple of set points in the tiebreak, couldn't capitalise and then double faulted set point down to hand away the first set.. He's still playing alright though and should improve as the year goes on barring injuries..

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Groth is playing in Dallas this week. Plays Tim Smyczek in the first round. Cant see him winning that but if he does should have a touch match against Shuettler in the second round.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Smyczek retired at 4-1 down so Sam gets an easy passage into the second round where he will play Rainer Schuettler. Schuettler has been choking a lot of matches of late so hopefully Sam can use his serve to keep it close and see what happens from there.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

If he plays like he just did, he will beat Rainer. He's going to have to keep S&V.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam lost 76 61. Disappointing second set. He has snuck in as an ALT to the Indian Wells Qualies.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Groth will be playing in Canada this week. This is his scetion of the draw.
[8] Samuel GROTH (AUS) vs Vasek POSPISIL (CAN)
Charles-Antoine BREZAC (FRA) vs [WC] Robert ROTARU (CAN)
Jordan COX (USA) vs Matteo MARRAI (ITA)
[WC] Ahmed EL TABAKH (CAN) vs [3] Matteo VIOLA (ITA)

His first round oppenent Vasek Pospisi is ranked 384 im pretty sure. He has been ranked 260. But had only played in two challenger tournments this year one in Australia where he lost in the final round of quallies and the in USA where he lost in the quater finals to American Michael Russell. Itsa tough little section for Groth but i really hope he can get through. Also he is seeded number 1 in the doubles playin with Bobby Reynolds.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Vasek Pospisil is a great player and he has even has a win under his belt over Nadal in doubles. Samuel should not be too disappointed here. hopefully he can do well in the doubles.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam is back to playing the 10k Antalya futures in Turkey. This week he is on the clay where he has defeated a Turkish Wildcard in the first round and will now play the Italian Qualifier Alessandro Collella in the second round. The top seed and the fourth seed (was on Sam's side of the draw) lost in the first round.

Baker (USA) - Bedene (SLO) - Bellucci (BRA) - Berta (SWE) - Cuevas (URU) - Domijan (USA) - Ebden (AUS) - Estrella (DOM) - Grigelis (LTU) - Guccione (AUS) - Heliovaara (FIN) - Kavcic (SLO) - King (BAH) - Kontinen (FIN) - Kubler (AUS) - Lajovic (SRB) - Matosevic (AUS) - McGee (IRE) - Millman (AUS) - Mitchell (AUS) - Nielsen (DEN) - Nieminen (FIN) - Paire (FRA) - Udomchoke (THA)

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam unfortunately injured his shoulder before his 1st round match in Turkey and was unable to continue in his 2nd match. Hope he is better soon
