Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam definitely seems to be in form, 12 wins on the trot now. Zopp should be a test for him though. If Sammy gets through Zopp I would expect at least a finals showing this week. It'll be interesting to see how long he can keep this winning streak going because it looks as if he is just simply too good for futures events at the moment, not that he isn't just interesting that he is winning so easily.

Next week Sam should be seeded again in the following Belorussian future so hopefully another deep run there. Anyone know Sam's schedule after these Belorussian futures? Is he heading back to Australia? I would think he would stay in Europe in all honesty.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Does anyone know why Sam’s points do not include the points from last week, is that because it is one week delay for Future tournaments?

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

so that means if Sam wins another future this week, he will be close to top300, if he keeps playing like this, he will be about 200-250 before he returns Australia for the new season.

Can I just point out that I am not this poster before I get accused. Although I am finding his posts interesting, the only problem is a lot of people on here won't be. Anyway Sam is definitely in form and I do believe he has a good chance to pick up another futures title or two before the years end.

Sam ended up losing his quarterfinal to Zopp 2-6 6-7. If you read his twitter posts he seems really enthusiastic about being on court these days and I think it shows in his results.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

The streak ends. I think one of the major reasons behinds Sam's success in the past couple of weeks besides playing well was due to the lack of competition he faced. In saying that though with the ability that Sam has he should be playing regularly on the Challenger circuit and these past few weeks will probably allow him to soon enough.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam now into quarterfinals in the second Belorussian future. Quite an interesting post on his twitter though....

Won 63 62! Match point, 2 metres away from me, I walk to side of court, guy takes flat grip and hits hard as possible at my head, so angry!!
Seems as if his opponent was so angry at the end of the match that he smacked a ball at Sam's head. I can't really understand that because chances are Sam's 6'5 build is bigger than his opponent so I wouldn't want to mess with someone like that.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam into semis now after a 7-6 6-4 win. Faces a the 4th seed from Belarus for a spot in the final. If Sam can make it that far he will most likely play Jerzy Janowicz in the final which I would expect Sam to lose. Still three finals in four week would be an impressive effort from Sam.

@NA_Brisbane yeah I be there, hopefully get my ranking up bit more before end of year to get myself in qualies
Sam's response to the National Academy in Brisbane as to whether he'll be contesting Brisbane qualies next year. Good to see that Sam is motivated to get his ranking back up to where it used to be. Back to Turkey next week for Sam to compete in some more 10k's on clay. I'd like to see Sam pick up a couple more futures titles in Turkey before he returns to Australia.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam lost his semifinal 6-4 7-5. Now if this post and the post above it does not prove the players constantly think about points and rankings then I don't know what will....

Went down 64 75. Guy played well and I was little off. October has been a good month, 15-2 win/loss, 2 titles, 47 points.
He has clearly done the maths to work out exactly how many points he needs to be at the sort of ranking he wants.

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Decent week for Sam. The field for next week's Turkish future is alot stronger than the ones Sam was playing in before he went to Belarus and when you factor in the clay it is definitely not a given that Sam will win these titles.

That's funny as hell, but honestly, his opponent must be an idiot. There aren't many professional tennis players with a bigger build than Sam.

What's funnier is that I looked up his opponent and he's 17 years old. Don't want to think what Sam could do to him

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

Sam's results from the Turkish future so far:

32 W Michael LINZER (AUT) 6-3 7-6(5)
16 W Lorenzo GIUSTINO (ITA) 6-2 6-4
QF W Adrian CRUCIAT (ROU) 6-3 6-7(5) 6-2

Faces the number 3 seed in the semis and is now the highest ranked player left in the draw. Another title could be on the cards for Sam this week which would be really great for him. Sam will want to win this week to continue his pursuit to make it into the Australian Open qualifying directly. I'm pretty sure he will be able to do it. 2 more wins like last time in Turkey then Sam will safely make it into the qualies. It is hard to know what to expect with Sam, he either does really well and surprises people or does really badly. I just hope he gets back up to the challenger level sometime next year.

Just good to see Sam playing so many matches, getting a stack of wins and not getting injured!!

Re: Samuel Groth: The Forgotten Australian

He said he will play for another 3 tournaments from this week, NZ, AUS, AUS. Hopefully to finish between 250-300 end of this year, and start to play challenger next year. Good luck.
