Yes I don't think Thanasi should bear any responsibility for this, no indication he was in any way involved in MM's actions. He was playing very well as far as I can see, until for whatever reason he lost several break points and thus the set. But if they'd kept on playing might well have won - his stats certainly looked better on the face of it, but we will never know.
On MM. Well, the positive interpretation would be that Matosovic suddenly decided he didn't want to lose to the Kokk, put his all into it, and did himself an injury in the process. Pretty stupid though if that's what happened given that he knew he was in anyway.
If he didn't want to keep playing what seems to have been a hard fought game, could just have put less effort in... (I'm not advocating tanking, just treating it as a practice match rather than the final of a slam!).
But if he plays tomorrow it clearly won't have been that serious - so why not play it out?
He's not the only one who has done this of late though, so the rules really do need another look at.
