After today's bad tennis day for Oz (between MM and Mr Mousley), we could use a bright spot or too!
Anderson, aged 28, is currently ranked 21 and has been at around that mark for around a year, in the top 50 since 2011. Hard is his preferred surface, and has two titles on it; win/loss at masters level is 38/40.
Went down in the first round of Toronto last year to Dolgopolov, and while generally pretty consistent has a had a few upsets to lower ranked players, including USO last year where lost to Marcos Baghdatis (who Thanasi missed out on playing in the Vancouver Challenger with, he just won the final). So maybe there is something providential in that for Thanasi - lost out in Vancouver, but picked up the points anyway in Toronto. Looked as if he was going down, but gifted the MD; and now a chance to capitalise on it with a big win...
