My goodness. Robby's been getting some tough draws this year. Combine that with his poor play and it doesn't look so good for our young Robert.

Re: The draws just suck... US Open Series thread.

Robby's doing the ATP Blog from Cincy this coming week. His entry is actually pretty interesting, but can someone please tell him how to spell, because he's embarrassing all Americans

Or just introduce him to the "spellcheck" function on the computer... or maybe someone at the ATP can translate his blogs into English for him like they did for Nadal.

Good luck, Robby!

Re: The draws just suck... US Open Series thread.

On the ATP website where it displays the preview for Robby's blog entry, it says, "Why I like people walking all over me. Hanging at Waffle House. And Hozelrocket hijinx." I knew Robby was a masochist!

It's odd seeing Robby blog in a week where he has a VERY tough draw and isn't likely to get past the first or second round...

aww... he made 3 spelling mistakes that I noticed (all in the same paragraph), unless you include "shmeal" and "hozelrocket"... 3 out of 869 words is probably better than most Americans and MTF posters on a good day James made more spelling mistakes so far... we'll see how Robby holds up I'm just glad I didn't see the "would of" used so far! I see that so often on forums! Good Robby for passing that test

Re: The draws just suck... US Open Series thread.

After losing 1-6 in 1st set, Robby came back and won the match 1-6 6-3 6-4

Hopefully it's Robby fighting hard, not PHM being a headcase that he is.

Re: The draws just suck... US Open Series thread.

Renata said that Robby started out really awfully and then PHM started playing poorly, so I think it was probably a combination of both. It's rarely that PHM loses when not being at least a partial headcase but good for robby hanging around and coming back

That's a relief. I got busy at work and couldn't check the results. He lives to fight another day.

Best twitter posts of the epic match:

@dougrobson - Whoever is supplying Mahut with hair gel needs to ink a sponsorship deal now.

@Wimbledon - FYI, with @Wimbledon live scoring devices, please add 50 to the games in the fifth set of the Isner v Mahut match.

@HolterMedia - Nice to see that a three-day test has come to tennis here @wimbledon.

Re: The draws just suck... US Open Series thread.

I was keeping an eye on the live scoring while at work and was ready to close my door and weep after the first set.

Nice to see him turn it around in the second set and not let up in the third... it was almost like somebody told him " psst! Robby, this isn't the warm up anymore--the match has started."

Good luck in R2, Robby!

Re: The draws just suck... US Open Series thread.

Ginepri battles nerves, expectations
Sinking No. 18 player avoids early exit
BY DUSTIN DOW | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITER

MASON - The pressure is getting to Robby Ginepri. He'll find out in the next few weeks whether or not he can handle it.

"I'm feeling pretty nervous out there on the court," said Ginepri, who won his first round match against Paul-Henri Mathieu Monday in the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters. "I don't feel like it's allowing me to play the potential of my game."

That's a problem because Ginepri demonstrated his potential this time last summer when he reached the semifinals here and duplicated that feat at the U.S. Open. Life on the court has been difficult ever since, and now Ginepri, ranked No. 18, is in danger of losing the 12-month ranking points he earned last year here if he doesn't put forth a good showing.

The individual, mentally taxing nature of tennis, however, makes it difficult for him to replicate his results of one year ago.

"If I could do that right now," Ginepri said, "I would love it. I think that's the way I feel out there on the court is because of these next few weeks and what's happening. You know, after this time last year I was kind of already thinking about having to come back and defend so many points, but you got to live it to learn it. Hopefully I won't learn it the hard way and fall out."

It looked like he might be headed for another quick exit on Monday when Ginepri lost the first set to Mathieu 1-6. But Ginepri, who made an encouraging semifinal run in Indianapolis in July, won the second and third sets, 6-3, 6-4.

He'll face Dmitry Tursunov in the second round.

"I haven't sunk my teeth into a tournament this year so much and it's because the first round is just so difficult for me," Ginepri said. "I haven't had too many matches. It's tough to get the ball rolling."

Ironically, Ginepri said he thinks that last season's success might be working against him as he tries to maintain his ranking.

"I think I've gotten smarter," Ginepri said, "which is actually hurting me. It's tough out here, and you've just got to play your game and not worry about anything. That's what I was doing last year."

Re: The draws just suck... US Open Series thread.

Robby played like crap in the first set. It was horrible to watch. He couldn't get more than 2 shots in a row over the net. The good thing was that he was able to pull himself together in the next 2 sets and his serve really got him many free points (it also helped that Mathieu missed many easy second serve returns ). I'm just happy that he finally won a match again.

ESPN showed the 3rd set from 2-3 after Blake's match last night. I think Robby played solid but not spectacular.
