Smile Robby in Paris!

Since the official draws for Paris were made today, I thought now would be a good time to start a thread for Robby's quest for the title in Paris...

The main draw can be seen here: http://www.fft.fr/bnpparibasmasters/...tableau.asp!SM

Robby is seeded #12 and has a BYE into the 2nd round...he will face either Fernando Verdasco or a qualifier in the 2nd round.

Re: Robby in Paris!

As I posted at the GF site Federer, Nadal, Hewitt and Safin are all out of the Paris Tournament. And the story I read said Andy was keeping his options open so the people with the Paris Tournament are afraid he is going to pull out also. If Robby feels like playing it could be an easy field, but will he really feel like playing?

Re: Robby in Paris!

You know I'm really kind of surprised even with all those top people out it still doesn't look like that bad of a field.
Men's tennis is really deep right now. So many players from so many countries even taking away what is considered the "cream of the crop" it isn't all that bad. If I were in Paris I would go to the Tournament, so maybe it won't be as bad as the people in charge think it is going to be with all those players out. I know they really want Andy to stay in the Tournament, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if he didn't pull out also.

Re: Robby in Paris!

I forgot to mention that Andre is out of Paris also, but like I said the field doesn't look bad at all. I don't think the Tournament people in Paris have a thing to worry about even if Andy pulls out

Re: Robby in Paris!

I can see Robby beating everyone in his quarter. Coria would be the toughie, but he hasn't been in the best of form lately.

These Guys Own!!

Murray - Blake - Rusedski - Gonzalez - Nadal - Gasquet - Roddick - Henman - Agassi - Safin - Ginepri

Sharapova ----

Verdasco is a monster, depending on whether his brain shows up that day or not. Winnable match for Robby, especially considering the speed of the surface, but not an easy opener if it ends up to be Fernando.

It's ok Eowyn, you posted the draw on the first page so it's all good

Anyhoo, I agree that this field isn't as "weak" as people in GM make it out to be. Everybody's freaking out because most of the Top 10ers won't be there but can anyone honestly say that the likes of Coria, Nieminen, Grosjean, Johansson, and others on hot streaks like Blake and Ljubicic are nothing but amateur slouches? Not even the Top five players want to see these guys on their side of the draw! The men's field is quite deep that even if you take out No. 1 through 10, you've still a lot of dangerous players left who can make life miserable for one another.

I think this will make Paris exciting and I'm looking foward to seeing who will make his breakout masters win. Good luck to Robby.

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

I didn't realize there was a rule about where the draw must be posted in a tourney thread anyway.

Re: Robby in Paris!

It will be a tough match with Verdasco in the first round. Like the others have said, just because a lot of the top ten players won't be there doesn't make it a "wide open" draw.

I went to Robby's Official Site. I thought maybe there might be some current information on how Robby was doing, but the most recent information was that he had pulled out of Lyon due to illness. LOL As if we didn't already know that. But I hope he is doing well and that he will be able to play in Paris
