Re: Robby, what lies ahead? - 2008

So, should we start a new thread or chat about the Aussie tournaments here? Hopefully, we'll have plenty of victories to discuss

He's playing Nick Lindahl in the first round of the qualies on Saturday... with the time difference, he might actually be playing right now but the live scoring isn't completely functional at the moment.

I hope his back isn't going to be a lingering problem.

It sounds like the type of injury that you don't notice until you start playing a match and it just progressively gets worse.

Just a couple days after retiring in Sydney with a back injury (in addition to retiring in Adelaide the week before that with the same injury), the first round of qualifying matches at the Australian Open began, and I assume Robby felt he had nothing to lose by attempting to play there... probably with little or no practice beforehand (in order to heal as much as possible in that amount of time). According to the UK TimesOnline, even though Robby did not retire in his match against Bogdanovic, he "needed two bouts of treatment on rigid neck muscles" during the match. At least he knows that he tried to qualify for the AO, even though his attempt was unsuccessful, and he was clearly not physically well.

Hopefully, Robby will have enough time to rehabilitate and fully recover before his next tournament so that he can play up to his potential again... Get better soon, Robby!

SIDENOTE: Bogdanovic did not win his next match.

Robby will come back strong, I know. He's a very fit and driven player, and I have alot of faith in him. Just wait for IW and Miami to come around!!

He's fit but he doesn't try hard enough. Sometimes he doesn't make enough effort to run after the ball. I mean, I'm pulling for him & all, and I love him and want him to do well, but he really needs to focus on his training. Maybe it was his back this time that caused his unluckiness this time, but he does need to train harder.

His serves could use some Oomph too.

Robby off to another poor start in 2008 And now a back problem to worry about Believe me back problems aren't good for anyone, but it would be really tough on a tennis player

Hi, welcome to the forum

I sometimes believe that Robby isn't training enough too, but I'm not there observing what he is or isn't doing, so I can't ever say for sure... All I can say is that based on everything I've heard from fellow players, P-Mac, and his website updates, is that he's putting in the work and he is training hard. The details... I dunno, but the fact that he was said to be training with his coach outside of the state he lives in, to me, says that he's most likely been putting in some good work.

He's attempted to qualify for a tournament every week of the year so far, and hopefully, he keeps trying to do that or maybe he will finally enter some challengers and try to win some of them, like he did earlier in his career...

I like the idea of the CH route. Coria is going to be doing that. If Robby can just get and stay healthy

Re: Robby, what lies ahead? - 2008

Well he won't really have a choice. Lots of good players who fall on hard times go to challengers - Agassi, Fish, Blake, just to name a few. His ranking's simply not high enough to get into ATP tourneys and challengers are a great way to build confidence and string wins together .If he doesn't go to challengers very soon, I think that will speak volumes.

Re: Robby, what lies ahead? - 2008

I think in order for Robby to really do well this year, he should take time off from playing in small tournaments and just focus on training. After the AO, he went straight to Hawaii, and now he's off to TX with only a day or two to travel, rest and train. If he just stopped and really focused on training and doing better, watching his matches and learning from the mistakes he makes, he can do much better.

Still supporting you Nepri. Luv yas
