Sorry for the somewhat premature thread but, as a Canberra born, I'm excited about Kyrgios.

Born: 27 Apr 1995
Birth place: Canberra, Australia
Plays: Right Handed (Double Handed Backhand)

Probably his biggest achievement to date came in doubles. He won (boys) Roland Garros and Wimbledon with Andrew Harris this year. His singles results have been coming along too, he recently won Canada (Grade 1) and made the quarters of Wimbledon and the US Open. Men's tour experience and results have been limited, but his showings have been respectable.

Already top 5 in juniors, he'll be one of the favourites for this year's u18 national championships and next year's junior Australian Open.

ATP have fined him, but are still considering further penalties (ie suspension):

"The ATP has announced that Nick Kyrgios has been fined the maximum on-site amount of $US10,000 for an insulting comment he made to Stan Wawrinka during their second round match at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, Canada," an spokeswoman said in a statement.

The statement added the ATP was still reviewing the matter "and additional penalties may be forthcoming."
You have to think Tennis Australia will also be considering action.

Christos, you've been posting around, so I bet you're reading this.

I see you guys aren't taking this very serious. You should, it's a major problem if your bro acts like this. This is friendly advice, he needs to form a fanbase, he needs to attract fans. If he's the bad guy, sure, he'll reach 15 minutes of fame, but long term, it would hurt his image, he would constantly fight these angry mobs, the audiences at tournaments would always be against him.

You guys need to analyze your strategy. Yes, his tennis is good talent, but without the public, he can't really enjoy his time at the top.

The media over reaction is again absurd for something that would be said a million times on the footy or cricket field. It's wrong what he said but again he shouldn't be burnt at the stake for it. It has reported so biased in the media it's not even funny, they don't even mention what started the comment to begin with..

1. Cricket and other sport mics - much more limited than tennis (stump mic etc only, not every player effectively wired up)
2. When I was a kid my mother taught me that what one of my siblings did did not justify my inappropriate response - Nick's Mum should have taught him the same thing. And anyway, what exactly did Stan do to Nick - as far as I could see or hear it amounted to shut up and get on with it when Nick was doing his usual mutterings and carrying on (and the first sledge). Or is this about moral outrage that Stan's gf is younger than him?
3. His idea of an apology was pathetic - didn't go public until after he was fined, and then only apologised for Stan, not all the parties involved.

I actually think a short suspension could be a positive - he's been showing signs of needing time out to sort himself out all year, maybe this is the opportunity to stop him wasting his talent a la Tomic.

Out of the amount of bullshit that's being going on it's tough to think about Nick's tennis. I'm hoping he can put this behind him and learn from it. Cincy then USO. Given the draw he can go far when playing well.

Nick's potential path in Cincy next week (providing he hasn't been banned for 3 years by then )

1R: Gasquet (first time they're playing on hard court. Let's see if it makes a difference)
2R: Fognini :spit:
3R: Cilic
QF: Murray
SF: Nadal/Federer
F: Djokovic

He got rather far in the draw in Montreal beating Verdasco and Wawrinka which was pretty tough so he can do it again. If he just concentrates and plays his best he can go far. Gasquet just came back from withdrawing from Montreal s he might be still injured. Despite having a negative H2H against him Kyrgios did beat him at Wimbledon last year. Their first meeting on hard should be interesting. Fognini, well you never know with Fognini. Mentally he can crumble despite being such a talented player. Cilic is a top 8 seed but only because he won the USO. I don't even think he's in the top 20 in the race. Far from impossible to beat. Beating Murray in the QF's would be too much to ask.

All the dramallama doesn't appear to have affected the Kyrgios/Sock relationship yet. They're due to practice together at 2pm local time today on Court 12 according to the schedule below. :) Wonder how Harrison feels about the fact that his fellow 'Merican seems to still prefer to be part of the Kyrgios 'crew'.

I've been away on holiday, so my comment on Nick and that sledge is:

Not a storm in a tea-cup Wally. It was a despicable comment, not befitting of someone representing their country.
Nick has lost MY respect and my support at this time.

As bad as Tomic has been, it is not something he has done. He plays his tennis and is actually very well behaved on court, except for the occassional "tanking" episode. And Tomic gets the treatment from TA for his off-court behaviour - so should Nick for his on-court behaviour.

Nick is not a nice person imo - as he has a go at tne ball boys, the linesmen (continuously), the umpire, the crowd AND HIS OPPONENT. Not a nice person it seems.

Nick first up on court 3 (televised) later today. :) Just read that he was at his friend, Jack Sock's match last night so hopefully he won't be too tired against Gasquet!

Anyway, some pictures. :)

Bad loss by Nick today! 6-2, 6-1. It looked like he pulled up badly during a point in the first game and tweaked something in his hip/lower back! :scared: Had to take an MTO and then had the trainer out a couple more times after that. At times it looked like he was trying to shake it off and came up with a few amazing winners but the pain clearly affected his ability to serve and hampered his movement. And in an effort to understandably shorten the points, he made a lot of errors.

On the plus side, he got mostly cheers when he came on court (just a smattering of boos) and was resoundingly applauded as he was introduced in the warm up and when he left court at the end of the match! :) Also loved the warm embrace he and Gasquet exchanged at the net.
