1st round match in Sacramento:

Nick Kyrgios (AUS) vs. (4) Alex Kuznetsov (USA)

Not the most fortunate draw, perhaps, getting the 4th seed.

He plays Rajeev Ram. Not Kuznetsov.

True, the original draw got changed, as mentioned here:

Still the #4 seed, though.

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

Not too bad a draw for Kyrgios. Ram did not perform well in the Asian swing, got beaten by Jonesie, who Kyrgios has beaten 3 times this year. But Ram will like the lighter balls in the USA, so it will be an interesting match up but I think Kyrgios will get the win.

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

Nick mirroring Thanasi in 1st round at Sacremento, on collision course with The Kokk, by taking first set against No.4 seed Rajeev Ran (ATP123), winning first set 76(4).

5-5 in second set. Will be interesting to see how this develops...
6-5 to Ram
TB at 6-6, Nick gets mini-break 1st point, leads 3-0
Double break for 4-0 lead, 4-1, 5-1,
Ace for 5 matchies at 6-1, should win...
1xmp saved 6-2
Breaks to win 7-2 - Well done, played the tb's better

Now a match up between him and Thanasi...

Rematch of the Aussie Open boys' final. More familiar territory for whoever makes the quarter-finals with the winner playing the winner of Mitchell and Klahn. Both Kyrgios and Kokkinakis have suffered losses to Klahn this year

Nick wins the battle of the young guns - 2-6 7-6(6) 6-1

A rivalry in the making.

Failure is not falling down, but refusing to get back up.

Tiebreak king strikes again Looked troubled by the wind early on, though. Isn't he used to windy conditions?

I don't think anyone can ever get used to/ or learn to enjoy the windy conditions. Wind is a huge neutraliser in tennis as well - takes away a lot of the effectiveness of players strengths IMO.

Agree with that, the steady baseliners adjust to the wind better. Big game players struggle with timing in the wind and it neutralises their strengths.

Good win by Nick, plays Ben Mitchell or Klahn next. Should progress to the semis here at least.
