“When I finally got that match point yesterday, it was a good feeling,” Kyrgios said.

“I just dropped my racquet and it maybe equalled the feeling of winning the first round at the French Open.”

“I definitely like the spotlight a bit more than playing on a back court in a tournament,” he said.

“Every time I’ve had an appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam I’ve done pretty well, and I’ve played well, and I’ve competed to the last ball so I’m looking forward to it.”

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

Be what may, Nick at 18 is playing one of the best players currently in the game, on one of the biggest stages in the sport. What an experience and what an opportunity.

Yeah, this is only his, what - 3rd match against someone in the top-100? After the two in RG. And already the World #4!

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

Yes... Nick breaks back to deny Ferrer, who was serving for the 1st set, and get to 4-5. Now to hold...
40-15 up..., 40-30, deuce... com'n Nick.., yes holds for 5-5.
Ferrer holds for 6-5, Nick 0-30... loses first set 5-7.

Com'n Nick

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

Tough end there. Not a bad first set, though.

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

Nick drops serve in first service game of 2nd set, now trails 1-3. Still competing well...
Go Nick - fight back.

Nick has break point at 2-4, but Ferrer saves..., leads 5-2. Ferrer wins 2nd set 6-3.

Gets doubles break on Nick to win 3rd set 6-2 and match 75 63 62.

Good performance by Nick by the World No.4

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

Good effort.

What's most important is that Kyrgios actually has real weapons that can win him cheap points, the rest is just fine tuning.

Impressive that he qualified as well, not many Australians do that ever. Most just bank on MDWCs

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

Very very proud of nick. Didnt shy away from the big stage, played with fire and belief all the while respecting his opponent. Created heaps of opportunities in break points in the first two sets and did himself justice. Awesome.

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

He played well and stayed aggressive. Ferrer's ability to loop Kyrgios's heavy balls back cross court with depth made it extra tough for Nick.

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

Latest rankings update - Nick now is credited with being the youngest player in the top 200 and the only teenager. He is well on the way to achieving his updated goal of the top 150 at the end of the year, now sitting at 186.

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

Since Jerzy is probably not going to be playing DC, I wonder if Nick will get given a chance against lower ranked polish team .
