I have to turn off the sound when I'm watching him these days, because the commentators are usually just talking about past indiscretions or forecasting his anger later in the match.

It's boring, and it's not conducive to him focusing and improving....

It's not even just the Australian media, it's everyone. The ATP, ITF, Australian and global media. He's a global figure now - and his name is now synonymous with rebel behavior. It's a long road. Things stick. Tomic now is only just coming out of it.

He's right, he doesn't care. That last shot was a pathetic idgaf throwaway, he has been a petulant little child for the entire tournament, constantly makes mountains out of molehiles (see shorts-gate). Essentially a new-age McEnroe, and yet he seems to be labouring under the delusion that being hated by half (if not more) of his own country is a good thing. Grow the fuck up, fix your mentality, and learn how to cope with small inconveniences without acting like it's the end of the world, because natural ability will only get so far. Support officially withdrawn, until the day when he finally decides to mature, if that day ever even comes.

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

his problem is that, while he claims he doesnt care what people think he obviously does and to much.

i got to admit its getting tiring seeing him go off for every little thing and showing absolutely zero respect to officials, chair umpires and at times his opponent. lets be honest he can be a brat

i like him but i dont know how much more i can take.

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

I expect it now, but it just makes me cringe It's not a good look.. but do you, I guess.

He seems to want everyone to hate him? Why tweet that? No one is going to rubbish him. He lost to a TOP 10 and very experienced Berdych. This was no match he was supposed to win for sure.

From his post match interview it doesn't look like he's interested in playing post AO. "Don't remind me"

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

Yes deeply disappointing, he really did seem to be in a better place mentally starting the season, but alas reverting to what seems to be his norm quickly enough.

In fairness shorts-gate wasn't really all that obvious if you were in Hisense - all you could see and hear was the stroppiness at the linesmen. But he wasn't playing as well as expected so obvious something was upsetting him even if not what.

And probably doesn't help to have the example of Lleyton in his box - who was fined for swearing in his final match, plus had his own go at the umpire!

He obviously does care, and the fact that he hates losing so much could be a big positive for him, but he really needs a coach and psychologist to help, and no sign that he will take the necessary steps.

Let's hope Kokk recovers quickly and realises his potential, perhaps that will stimulate Nick to get his house in order...

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

I don't want him to stop. I want him of course to drop unnecessary comments, stop swearing, stop tanking. But what he did to the end of set 2 brought out a game that was top 5 level. Easily.

I think what he needs is something to fire him up before the match starts. The rude and stupid things he does are an attempt to find his 'zone'. Let's see him play an entire match, an entire tournament even, just playing his top game within it needing to do so by misbehaving.

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

You don't have to support someone just because they're from the same country as you He congratulated Oliver anyway... but obviously he knows Jurabek more if he's in his player box

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

Nick Decides not to play at the Olympics:
News article in SMH Friday 3 June 2016:

Nick Kyrgios' full Olympic Statement

It is with a heavy heart that I have had to make a decision not to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Coming to this decision has been a lengthy and difficult process, and I am extremely disappointed to have been put in this unfortunate position.

Representing Australia at the Olympic Games has been a dream of mine since I was a kid. Playing in the Olympics was a goal this year; I planned my tournament schedule around Rio and made sure to fulfil my Olympic eligibility. Unfortunately, while I have expressed every intention of trying to win a medal for my country in Rio, it's very clear to me that the Australian Olympic Committee has other plans.

AOC's unfair and unjust treatment of me over the last four weeks, as well as the organization's crystal clear position on whether they want me to be a part of the Australian Olympic team, has solidified my final decision.

While I have received assurances from Tennis Australia that I will be nominated for the Olympic team, the AOC has chosen to publicly and privately disparage me. Not one member of the AOC has reached out to me, my family, my team, or representatives of Tennis Australia, asking for a meeting or the opportunity to discuss their concerns. The AOC's unwarranted attacks on me demonstrate the organization's inability to understand the circumstances surrounding highly competitive sports. I also don't want the AOC's treatment of me to become a distraction and negatively affect the Australian Olympic team.

I am grateful to Tennis Australia for standing by me through this process and nominating me for the team. I also want to thank the public and the members of the media who have voiced their support.

I am a proud Australian and have always loved representing my country. I am fortunate to be young enough to hopefully have a chance to wear the green and gold at the Olympics in the future. I hope that in four years I will find myself in the position to be a part of the Australian Olympic team.

I would like to wish every athlete representing Australia the best of luck this August and will be following their progress and supporting and cheering them from afar.

AOC AND KITTY CHILLER RESPONSE TO KYRGIOS WITHDRAWAL

According to his website, Nick Kyrgios, has made himself unavailable for selection on the 2016 Australian Olympic Team.

Tennis Australia is due to nominate athletes to the AOC for selection on the 30 th of June.

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings are released on June 6 th . On the 9th of June the ITF will inform the AOC of eligible players.

Tennis Australia will identify athletes for selection based on these rankings.

At this point, Nick Kyrgios, or any other tennis athlete, has not been nominated for selection on the Australian Olympic Team.

In regard to selection every athlete in contention is treated equally and fairly.

We have no further comment on this issue.

TENNIS AUSTRALIA PRESIDENT STEVE HEALY'S REACTION TO KYRGIOS NEWS

We understand Nick's decision and totally support him and his right to make it.

But we are very disappointed that he has been put in this position.

Nick is a passionate competitor and he's working hard to learn and mature in a highly pressurised environment where he is under constant public scrutiny.

As we've said recently Nick's performances this year have improved. His growing maturity is reflected in his on court performance, with only world No.1 Novak Djokovic defeating more top ten players than Nick has this year.

He has received support from a lot of other tennis players and athletes.

But now Nick has made this difficult decision we should let him focus on his tennis without further distraction.

Re: Nick Kyrgios - Yes He Canberra

Hopefully Kyrgios can add at least one more ATP title by the end of the year, has a decent US Open, and that he finds a coach to help with his motivation for tennis, with his concentration, and to elevate his ground and net game as much as possible.
