Re: James in 2011

Due to a few withdrawals, James is now in the Wimbledon main draw.

James has also been given WC's to Atlanta, LA, and Washington DC.

Re: James in 2011

Wimbledon draw:
Quote:
Marcos Baghdatis CYP (32) v James Blake USA
Andreas Seppi ITA v Albert Montanes ESP
Kevin Anderson RSA v Illya Marchenko UKR
Jeremy Chardy FRA v Novak Djokovic SRB (2)
It could have been worse. Baghdatis won their only previous meeting (Rotterdam last year), and he played pretty well this week in Rosmalen (wins over Clement, Haase, and Gremelmayr; lost to Dodig). Seppi is in the SF of won Eastbourne this week and James lost in straights to him in R1 here 2 years ago. I wonder how James will do after not playing for 6 weeks and no match play on grass. I'm not expecting anything - I'm more looking forward to the summer hard court events.

Tough draw, but yeah could've been worse. Good luck James.

Re: James in 2011

James is 3rd on Court 18 after Del Potro today. Let's hope this match doesn't go the way of Isner/Mahut and Pam Shriver stays in the broadcast centre...

Re: James in 2011

Wimbledon R1: James lost to Baghdatis 4-6 2-6 7-6(5) 6-4 4-6 in 2 hours 48 minutes.
James made a good effort. He could have just given up in the 3rd set and left, but he kept fighting. He was up a break early in the 5th, but when it came down to it - he made too many errors. But not bad.

I gotta laugh about my comment in the post above. Mohamed Lahyani was in the chair, and Pam Shriver was courtside. Luckily for Mo it was a quick 5-setter, and Pam learned her lesson from last year (I was LMAO listening to her explain on air how wrong she was).

Re: James in 2011

Good effort by James. He did a great job to get back in it but the lack of matches seemed to cost him in the 5th. Hope he can build on this and have a strong U.S. hardcourt swing!

Re: James in 2011

From Tennis.com, a quote from James yesterday about retirement:

Quote:
"It hasn’t crossed my mind yet. That’s going to be a decision that’s going to take longer than one match and I wouldn’t want to make it within an hour, two hours, or even a day of a loss, especially because your head isn’t where it’s supposed to be at that time. There’s probably been around, I don’t know how many matches I’ve lost over the years, probably about a couple of hundred, and I’d say out of 200 about 198 of them I probably thought I should retire right after those. I’d come back the next day ready to play and ready to get better. I’m thinking this one will be the same."

Re: James in 2011

Tough break. He shouldn't be think retirement just 'cause he lost to a seeded player.

Re: James in 2011

I just noticed that James didn't need the WC for Washington. He's the last player in the main draw - low ranking cutoff this year.

Re: James in 2011

James got a WC into the Winnetka Challenger this week. He's the #2 seed and drew Udomchoke for R1 (match is Monday night).

His half of the draw is wide open - Capdeville, Soeda, and De Voest are the other seeds. Russell, Young, Reynolds, and Dabul (+Ginepri) are on the top half. He's gotta take advantage of this! The entry cutoff for the USO is in a few weeks, so the extra points could definitely get him into the MD and could possibly help him get into the smaller tour events in the fall.
