NHL Saturday

NHL YTD: 35-27-3 (+8.86 units)
ML: 23-14 (+9.57 units)
GL: 3-3-3 (+.64 units)
O/U: 9-10 (-1.35 units)

This will either be a good night or a very bad one. Alot of big road faves which could be dangerous but I'm going to bite on them.

3* Carolina Hurricanes (-160) Over Washington Capitals - Includes regulation, ot and shootout
1* Carolina Hurricanes (-1 1/2) (+175) Over Washington Capitals

Washington has improved the last few games but they are still not a strong team at all. These two teams met 10 days ago in Carolina which ended up being a 7-1 win for the Hurricanes. Not basing it off that result cause I think we would all be foolish if we did but overall the balance of this Hurricanes team is very good. Hurricanes have shown the ability to score goals in bunches this season and a staple of a Peter Laviolette teams is strong defense which Carolina has displayed. Part of there strength defensively has been there goaltending in rookie Cam Ward. Ward has been extremely impressive this season. Not entirely sure who will be starting here. Gerber is back from injury and should get a start eventually but the coaching staff might stick with the red hot Ward here. Washington for the most part has been brutal this season defensively. In there 8 games they've given up 3 or more goals in 6 of those games. The Caps faced an offensive team 4 times so far and in all cases they've given up 5+ goals in each of those games. The Caps don't have the offensive weapons to compete at scorelines like that. Just think here the speed and depth of the Hurricanes should win out. A little worried over the improved play of the Caps but the Hurricanes are a much better and faster team which should be to there advantage.

2* Detroit Red Wings (-185) Over Columbus Blue Jackets - Includes regulation, ot and shootout

Won last night on the Wings and lost last night with the Sharks as the Jackets cruised to a big victory over them. Both teams playing in back to back situations with Columbus having the advantage being home for both. The Wings have the clear player personnel advantage in this game. Wings have been one of the best teams in the NHL this season. Offensively there is so much talent and depth while defensively they've been strong but goaltending has been brilliant with Legace coming up with big game after big game. The Wings are 3-0 on the road this season and I see no reason why they don't win this game as well. Both starters last night are expected back in net again as Legace will go for the Wings and Denis for the Jackets.

2* New Jersey Devils (-160) Over Atlanta Thrashers - Includes regulation, ot and shootout

New Jersey has found there scoring touch the last two games which makes me confident enough to back them on the road here at Atlanta. Jersey has scored 10 goals in the last two games against Pittsburgh and Florida. Besides the piss poor play of the Thrashers this is a general fade of the Thrashers netmider Garnett. In Garnett's 3 games he's played he has a GAA of 6.33 and a save % of .817. That is just awful. Now the Thrashers are going to eventually put things together and start to improve very soon. They have two much talent on the team and a very good coach but things are just going terrible for them now. They lead the league in penalties racking up 30 minutes a game. They are actually averaging 1 1/2 periods a game in the box. That just won't cut it in today's NHL. I look for the Devils to continue there offensive ways in this game. There goaltending is strong enough and the Thrashers just struggle offensively right now.

1* New York Islanders (+145) Over Montreal Canadiens - Includes regulation, ot and shootout

Very easy to take the Canadiens in this game and I don't blame you if you do. I'm an Islander homer and I believe in my team very strongly. In watching there two games against the Rangers I saw some things I really liked. For starters the Yashin-Satan combo is starting to click. These two look extremely dangerous together. Guys like Blake, Parrish, York and Hunter are starting to also make there presence felt in the offensive end. The Isles lone problem is toughness but Lukowich and Hunter seemed to have solved that problem as they've thrown there bodies around the last couple of games. For those waiting for Dipietro to have his breakout season your witnessing it as he's been nothing short of brilliant in net. The Isles are starting to click as a team and I beleive the two wins over the Rangers has started what could be a strong run for this team. Montreal has been very solid this season. So far they seem like they've got a strong team but I'm not really convinced of that. Yes they are 5-2 but I'm not sold on the opponents they beat. They beat a struggling Boston team twice, an Atlanta team which we all know about, Toronto when they weren't playing well and the Rangers who the Isles just beat also. Just think there is value here on the Isles. To me this game favors the Canadiens 55% which puts the value on the Isles here. With better offensive weapons I willing to take the shot on my Islanders.

1* Nashville Predators (-170) Over San Jose Sharks - Includes regulation, ot and shootout

As long as San Jose continues to struggle on the road I believe they might be a good team to fade. At 1-5 things can't get much worse for them but they head to Nashville to face the undefeated Predators. Nashville added the right pieces in the off season to make a strong run this season and early on it's paying off. Nashville is 6-0 right now albeit a bunch of tight wins but they have still yet to be beaten. SJ is starting Vesa Toskala tonight and he's been awful so far this season. He played really poorly last night giving up 3 goals on just 15 shots and in his other games he wasn't much better. I look for the Predators to continue there winning ways at home.

1* Minnesota Wild (-125) Over St. Louis Blues - Includes regulation, ot and shootout

Consider me a believer in this Wild team. The Wild are #1 in Power Plays and #2 in Penalty Kills. They are solid all around conceding very little and taking advantage in the other teams mistakes. I wasn't high on the Blues at the beginning of the season and so far they've played ok but haven't produced much. Considering my current love affair for the Wild and my success so far in backing them I'm willing to give them a shot here. By the way I forgot to mention this highly defensive Wild team has scored 19 goals in the last 4 games.

Good Luck to All!!!!

GL corey,

Good Luck to All!!!!

Gl corey

I'm on the wings as well at -185, not much in the way of value but 3 unit play for me as they are just too solid all around to be bothered by the jackets with their current injury situations.

Caps have burnt me a couple times this year, namely ovechkin himself has burned me a couple times this year, but on the canes ml -160
for 2 units

Pitt + 150

Boston hasnt wowed me with their play outta the gate thus far, raycrofts been okay while the return of Thibault is sure to help the pens if he can get some defensive help. Offensivly the pens have the guns and marios gettin a bit choked with the money hes doled out and the return on that so expect the pens to come out flyin tonight.

And im not betting it but come nuckers lets shyt kick some avs ass.

jackieglover - Great avatar...Great show...Thanks and Good Luck to you too!!!!

flmmkrz - bro bounce back in the contest. long ways to go so hang in there. As for tonight definetly agree with value on the Pens. Bruins haven't been great so far but neither has the Pens. One team will put it together but I won't back the Pens till they put something together. Things just don't sound right coming out of there media as players are not playing well in there system. Glad to see you on the Canes and Wings as well. Canucks should take out the Avs. Not playing it cause the price is just not worth it for that type of game. Bigtime media game that is with Bertuzzi's first game against the Avs. Should be interesting. Good Luck tonight!!!!

yeah rough go in the contest for me so far, thats what you get for going for high return picks lol. Had florida -1.5 over the caps with ovechkin scoring with under 3 left to bring it to within 1 and then the sharks ml yesterday and they no showed. Got pitt tonight on there so hopefully its not a case of just dying by the big value plays.

Re: NHL Saturday

I give up pittsburgh stinks. The last nhl seasons pens version cost a quarter of this version and neither one is a decent nhl squad.
