IIHF world mens hockey championships

I cant wait for this to get started, good ole canadian boy and no nhl all season

anyone else betting this tourny... starts april 30th but exhibitions start shortly and then the main events not too long after its about time to start talking about it. Just future bets right now but I of course have my money piled up on canada to take it at 2.75 right now, even without old stand by's like Mario, Sakic and Iginla we still have scorers, role players and the best goalie in the tourny and possibly ever in Brodeur. As far as competition for them russians will be a scoring machine out there but it doesnt look like they'll have a goalie who can keep them in it against the tougher teams but if they catch fire they could win it all. Czechs have Jagr and vokouns a talented goalie so they should be tough as well. Sweden is fielding a below b squad for what they could be fielding so they should be a non factor. Doesnt look like Kiprusoff is playing so finland should be hooped. US is in a rebuilding stage I could see them getting to the semis anyway but mainly cause a few of the euro teams tendancy to be flakey despite their talents being miles ahead of the us teams. Slovaks are like an underpowered russian team, scoring but no goalie.

My being a homer aside Canadas still the class of the world in the competition, there might be a few more talented players else were but a more complete team I dont think there is in this competition.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the outrights? I'll be posting my thoughts on the match by match when it starts up as well.

Re: IIHF world mens hockey championships

Yes, I want to place bets on it for sure, but I'm not an expert! I want to wait for some scandinavian/canadian guys to give me some good thoughts.

I have to look at all the teams first before I can give you my favourite to take the title. I've only seen the teams of USA, Canada and Czech so far and I like Canada most. It's a bit funny that USA has 4 or 5 players from Germany in their team.
Maybe Germany has to play without their three biggest stars.
Kölzig (Washington) won't play
Sturm (S.J.Sharks) won't play
and the best imo Jochen Hecht (Buffalo) has an injured arm

My first thought is:
Canada to win with -2.5 HC over Latvia @1.95?

Do you think it's realistic?

Re: IIHF world mens hockey championships

Saturday matches

Pounding Canada ml and -.5. Swedens played well to date but while alfredsons very good the sedins are on my home team and I saw them play for the last few years they will not be any sort of threat to this canadian team. Brodeurs already back in form, defence is getting better game by game and offence getting stronger. This is money for the taking.

Latvia -0.5, playing like a team possessed. And archie is nuts in net right now ride the hot team.

I will play "Germany -1.5" tomorrow

Should be an easy game even for Germany. I think they were just a bit tired at the end against Austria.

Re: IIHF world mens hockey championships

Few plays for me...

Took canada ml and -.5 (in the 60 minutes)

Slovaks while a great skating team that has the potential to score a lotta goals if canada doesnt play solid d is also not very solid on d past their first unit and their goalie is suspect. If Brodeur steps it up a notch and canada plays some d this should be a fairly routine win, if not well it should still be a win just more so a grinding win.

Russia ml and -.5 (in the 60 minutes)

Just a deeply talented team of individuals who because of that individual talent playing like individuals likely wont win this tourny but should be way more than the fins could handle.

Layed a little on the Swiss team to take out the swedes ml. This swedish team has been the best in the tourny thus far but the swedes have an uncanny ability to disappear during crunch time and running into a very hot gerber right now will not be helping their cause.

Also took over 5 in the czech/us game.

Avoided the czech game otherwise tho I think the czechs should win but the pesky americans are always game and could keep this close and even sneak out a win if the czechs come out of the gates slow.

Canada should win.

Im against sweden tho. The latvia game really inflated their goal totals I dont think they're nearly the offensive force their stats indicate. I also think the Swiss have seen far more potent line ups already in the slovaks and czechs and held them to 3 goals and under. If they tighten up even more this could be a squeaker of a game. Wouldnt surprise me at all to see sweden buckle nor would it surprise me to see Sweden win easily. Its 60-40 swedes in my mind.

dont get too upset there bg, sweden "should" win this game as they have the superior talent in virtually all positions except in net. So its not a foolish or bad play at all. I just dont see it being an easy a win as a lot of others do based on what i've seen so far, but even possibly overhyped this swede team may have too much for the swiss but as close as I have them in my mind I thought the odds were good enough for a go.

And yeah about 5 hours time

We won against Canada, and now we're not supposed to win against a mediocre team of Switzerland. That means that Switzerland is better than Canada

Are we a bit scared of meeting Sweden again?? Well i understand that, but telling fellow punters that the match could go either way...

I'm on Finland to make the Semis @2.20

Nothing intelligent, I just couldn't bet against Finland.

See this is exactly what I meant as overhyped. I'm not saying sweden isn't the better team here on paper but they've been the better team on paper many times and folded up like a cheap tent.

They beat canada yes, and the win caught me by surprise for sure but we both know canada has another gear and to canada that game was purely preseason form as nearly 3/4 of the team hadn't played a lick of hockey all year whereas the swedish team had all played all year long and the result wasn't a butt kicking. You think the score would have been that close if team canada players had spent all season playing and the swedes took the year off? All I said was in my eyes slovaks and czechs are at least as tough as the swedes and the swiss played them tough, I still label the swedes the favorite in the match but I think its a closer game than a lot of people may predict. Course it could also be a sweden blow out nothing would surprise me.
