Right now across the world fantasy sports, where you typically "buy" a group of players for your team from some sort of budget, are incredibly popular. There are obviously sites like this already active on the web, but I was proposing something a little different.
So, your team is composed of six players:
Captain: The highest-ranked player on your team. Points for the Captain are divided by 7.
Veteran: A player aged 30 or over. Points for a Veteran are divided by 1.5.
Young Gun: A player aged 22 or under.
Rising Star: A player ranked outside of the Top 100. Rising Star's points are multiplied by 2.5.
Doubles Team: A pair of Doubles Players who have teamed up at least three times in the last year. Each player's individual points will be divided by 12..
(N.B. Players would be prioritised in the order I have listed the classes above, i.e. Roger Federer, although over 30, would be classed as a Captain for most players, and Kyle Edmund, although outside the Top 100, would count as a Young Gun).
The ranking system is relatively simple, you add up the points on your team at the end of the week (with the above handicaps/multipliers) and this is added to your budget. Whoever earns the most points by the end of the season wins.
Now arises the question, how do you buy players?
During the week, if you wish to buy a player, you would simply post a bid. How it would proceed from here would be as follows:
If the player is unclaimed, you can simply buy him outright from the Player Pool for his current ranking points (The same multipliers apply for the points earned as the prices of the players)
If the player is unclaimed but two players want to buy him in the same week, an open auction would be held for the player.
If the player is already on the team of another member, you could either make an enquiry to buy him from that player, or carry out a hostile takeover of sorts, and buy the player without negotiation for double his price.
Any questions below please ask, and if you'd be interested in this idea it'd be great to hear some feedback.
Player costs would be their ranking points (divided by two for Captains and Doubles players, multiplied by two for Rising Stars. I'm going to figure out starting budgets tomorrow, approximate how much would be reasonable to give to players for initial betting, and we'll start this the first Monday after Wimbledon.
Okay, so I did the Maths and these are the multipliers I got
Veterans: Prices and Points divided by 1.5
Young Guns: Unchanged
Captains: Prices and Points divided by 7
Rising Stars: Prices and Points multiplied by 2.5
Doubles Players: Prices and Points divided by 12
This is the Maths I used:
Obviously this isn't going to be hugely popular to begin with, I've estimated about 8 people will start in this. Thus I took the Top 8 from each category (with Veterans I did the Top 8 starting with Lopez I think), and took a mean average of their points. The results were thus:
Veterans: 1472
Young Guns: 985
Captains: 7048
Rising Stars: 414 (for Rising Stars I took the average of the world number 101, 112, 125, 137, 150 etc up to 200)
Doubles: 5928 (with Doubles I took it over the Top 16, since each player would have to take 2)
With these multipliers the average player from each category (in the Top 8) should be about 1000, and so the starting budget for everyone will be 5,500 (I'll add an extra 500).
With this finished off, I'm going to open the buying window for the first season of Tour Manager. This window will last until the beginning of play next week in Newport.
To post your claimed players simply post this:
Captain: (Name) (Price (Ranking Points divided by 7))
Veteran: (Name) (Price (Ranking Points divided by 1.5))
Young Gun: (Name) (Price (Ranking Points))
Rising Star: (Name) (Price (Ranking Points multiplied by 2.5))
Doubles Team: (Name) (Price (Ranking Points divided by 12)) (Name 2) (Price 2 (Ranking Points divided by 12)) (Three Tournaments where these two have played together in the last year)
Remaining Budget:
My claim shall be:
Captain: Andy Murray 1064
Veteran: Ivo Karlovic 923
Young Gun: Dominic Thiem 1235
Rising Star: Nicolas Almagro 925
Doubles Team: Vasek Pospisil 512
Jack Sock 473 (Wimbledon, Indian Wells, Miami)
Remaining Budget: 368
If you want to counter-claim any of my players, then you can. The first deadline for bidding will be this Thursday, after which you will no longer be able to counter-claim other players. Any existing counter-claims will from then on be resolved with bidding.
Re: New Idea-Tour Manager (First Week Bidding Now Open!)
My claim shall be:
Captain: Stanislas Wawrinka 827
Veteran: Jo Wilfried Tsonga 1710
Young Gun: Alexander Zverev 688
Rising Star: Tommy Haas 45
Doubles Team: Bob Bryan 958
Mike Bryan 958 (Wimbledon, RG, Monte Carlo)
Elirj seems to have done some miscalculations with his straight-out buying price, hypothetically yours are both the same now until Thursday, when you can start increasing bids.
Re: New Idea-Tour Manager (First Week Bidding Now Open!)
Okey doke, so Thursday is here, and the first round of acquisitions is over. If your player is uncontested, he's yours.
If your player is contested, you have until Saturday to resolve this conflict with private deals between counter-claimants. If the disputes are unsolved by then, then the matter will go to a bidding war.
If you lose one of the players from your list you may claim an unclaimed player to fill his place.
List of Counter-Claims
Andy Murray: Matthew2408, Prakharulz
Stan Wawrinka: supertom, Elirj70
John Isner: Arsenalex, Matthew2408
Ivo Karlovic: Diadochi, Elirj70
Nick Kyrgios: Arsenalex, Elirj70
Jack Sock: Diadochi, Matthew2408
Also just to clarify, Elirj70's remaining budget is in fact a rather large 1125 due to his miscalculations. Thus I am going to drop my claim to Karlovic and instead select Kohlschreiber instead, raising my remaining budget to 494
Re: New Idea-Tour Manager (First Week Deadline Closed, Negotiations Period Open)
As Negotiated, I am also removing my claim for Andy Murray in return for Prakharulz removing his claim to Jack Sock, with each of us taking Nishikori and Tomic respectively, altering our budgets to 749 and 611
Re: New Idea-Tour Manager (First Week Deadline Closed, Negotiations Period Open)
Sorry for posting this late, been pretty busy today.
Negotiation Period has closed and we're now onto all-out bidding. These are the remaining counter-claims:
Andy Murray: Matthew2408, Prakharulz
Stan Wawrinka: supertom, Elirj70
John Isner: Arsenalex, Matthew2408
Ivo Karlovic: Diadochi, Elirj70
Nick Kyrgios: Arsenalex, Elirj70
And here are the budgets of each individual player:
To bid, post: <Player Name> <Class> <Amount> <Remaining Budget>
Bids will start at 50 above their original price, and can be increased by increments of up to 100.
If you have raised the bid, you may not raise it again until another player does so.
You can engage on multiple bids per post, and the deadline for bidding will be the Midnight BST on the night of Sunday 12th-Monday 13th.
With your bid, also post your reserve player(s), i.e. who will be added to your team if you don't get your first choice. This player has to be as of yet unclaimed, and these claims will run on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Re: New Idea-Tour Manager (First Week Deadline Closed, Negotiations Period Open)
Andy Murray Captain 1214 461
Reserve Player: Roger Federer 1389
