French Open R1 thoughts and outright bets

I thought this might be quite a good idea as R1 will be spread over 3 days so it is not clear which match plays when.

I haven't had time to study the draw, but if the odds are over 1.40 (probably unlikely) I'd hammer the shit out of Henman over Carlsen.

Re: French Open R1 thoughts and outright bets

I hope bookies make that mistake, but it is doubtful. Carlsen lifetime 0-4 at RG, 0-1 this year losing to a NR player, 1-9 in his last 10 only beating Alex Kim in 2004, 7-20 lifetime on clay. Ouch.

From first glance at the draw, I'm thinking Federer/Robredo, Nalbandian/Davydenko, Stepanek/Ferrer, Almagro/Nadal are the quarterfinal matchups.

Re: French Open R1 thoughts and outright bets

The following look good to me:

Henman over Carlsen.
Capdeville over Rusedski.
Lapentti over Moodie.
Martin over Roddick.
Monfils over Murray.
Muller over Mirnyi.
Montanes over Ginepri.

Couple of long shots - Portas to beat Baghdatis and Santoro to beat Acasuso.

Maybe the qualifier over Gimelstob, Goldstein, Youhzny, Sabau depending on who they are.

Its not a great draw though IMO in terms of betting oppurtunities. Hopefully there will be some good prices when the lines come out though.

Well I'm sure there are some good openings...I'll be studying it in a few hours.

Freeze makes a good point about Henman though...the odds might be lower than 1.20 Absolutely no chance he loses to Carlsen so I might even hammer a 1.30.

It might even be worth doing Henman to win 3-0. I guess that would be near £1.90-2.00. I don't think Carlsen has even played a clay court event this season has he? He will want to get on the grass as soon as possible.

The risk with this is that Henman is always liable to have a set where he goes walkabouts.

Re: French Open R1 thoughts and outright bets

Hammer any match that Carlsen plays on clay... any

He's only relying on his serve to pull him through matches, and dont even expect anything from him on grass. Havent seen him this season, but I wouldnt rate him highly judging from what ive seen the last couple of seasons. Go back 4 years or so, and he played a lot better.... Hammer it Jez

Re: French Open R1 thoughts and outright bets

Hmm i wouldnt bet a lot on him taking the game 3-0, if he has one of those days where he servers incredibly.... then he will be able to hold his serve in most sets. Its still a pretty clear win to Henman :-). I think the best hes done this year is quarterfinal in some challenger tournament on Lanzarote, really not impressive

Re: French Open R1 thoughts and outright bets

Lets hope for something somewhere in the region of 1.35

and maybe a little punt on 3-0 but not much, all depends on the price given

Re: French Open R1 thoughts and outright bets

Right, I'am really liking:

Muller @ £2.20 to beat Mirnyi.
Capediville @ £1.91 to beat Rusedski.
Kohlschreiber @ £1.80 to beat Marach.
Berdych @ £1.44 to beat Lopez.

On the mens side - Federer vs Clement, Acasuso vs Santoro, Henman vs Carlsen, Moya vs Marin, Robredo vs Zib and Nalbandian vs Wawrinka.

Anyone like Novak @ £1.83 to beat Tursunov? Normally I would back anyone to beat Dimi on clay but I question Novak's ability to last more than 3 sets on clay after just coming back from injury.
