Feliciano Lopez -161 over Gilles Muller ($1610 to win $1000)
This is my biggest wager of the tennis season. Feliciano Lopez is 8-1 versus other lefties when playing on any surface but Clay (his only loss was to Nieminen on Hard).
In order to win a lefty versus lefty matchup, you have to fully understand how other lefties play and Feliciano seems to have this down pat. These odds are decent here and I am willing to riske the big money for a well rested Feli who is up against a dead tired Muller. Gilles played a 5-setter to open the tournament and had trouble disposing of another lefty in Ricardo Mello. The fact that he had problems against Mello tells me that Lopez should have an easy time and we won't see this one go past four sets (at most). Don't be fooled by Muller's run at the US Open last year. Sure Muller has experience on the hardcourts, more so than other frenchmen, but Lopez is also good on hardcourts and Feli has made the 3rd Round of the Australian Open in two of his three appearances. Feli is also 25-16 in Grand Slam matches and he seems to shine when the spotlight is on him. He is coming off an easy win in Round 1 and has the energy to play hard here. After Rafa Nadal, I would say Feli is the best left-hander on the ATP Tour right now and he is going to kick Muller out of this tournament.
