Marin Cilic 2.40 over David Ferrer
Cilic started the year white hot, winning Chennai, getting to the round of 16 in Melbourne before bowing to the then on fire Juan Martin Del Potro, and then winning the title in his home country of Zagreb. The big Croat has cooled off some since then losing in the quarters of Dubai to Djokovic and then losing to Robredo in Indian Wells in a match I believe he should win 8 out of 10 times on hard courts. The young Croatian is improving big time but perhaps the mental and physical grind of the tour is still getting to him.
Ferrer struggled with off the court problems towards the end of last year after splitting up with his long time girlfriend and this was evident on the court as Ferrer was just a shell of his 07 self. It seems that the Spaniard though is back on his game after being a finalist in Dubai and putting together a strong Davis Cup effort for Spain, bouncing Djokovic and Tipsarevic with complete ease, albeit on clay.
As important as good form is in tennis, I'm not quite sure I understand the line in this match. Why is Ferrer the favorite? Its true that Cilic wasn't sharp a couple of weeks ago in Indian Wells and that Ferrer continues to return to old form but these 2 met just 2 months ago in Australia where Cilic took Ferrer to the woodshed destroying the Spaniard in 3 sets with very little resistance from the junkyard dog. Cilic as an underdog here? Sign me up.
With all of the respect,chap......Marin has had a blasting start to the season with titles on the fast venues of Chennai and Zagreb - where actually he hasnt had a decent opposition to overcome, but nowadays Croat seems to be paying the price for an exuberant commencing of the season......awful display in Dubai where mediocre Tipsarevic had all the chances to notch an upset, than pathetic show vs. absolutly atroucious Darcis in Wells and eventually loss to the consistent but more than beatable Robredo.....dont put to much of an emphasis on their AO encounter- Cilic was hot, conditions suited him perfectly and Ferrer was on the detour tracks.....at a current moment Ferrer has seized an essential pace and finally turned into well-known wall capable to return everything back - splendid performances in Dubai,DC clashes and great 3 setter vs. Roddick in Wells has been reinforced with solid sculp of sensational Isner who but for his serve (which is much more formidable in comparisant with Marins one) showed some magnificent ground strokes for his type of a contender, still Ferrer has withstood 16 aces and regardless of a 3 sets been in control of the whole match.......slow windy local conditions, functunal downtrend for Marin, uptrend for David.....grasped Ferrer yesterday at a price of 1.88 and this bid seems to be a marvellous value for me.
