Tennis - Beijing Olympics

I get the feeling someone outside the big three is going to win golds. I think you have to look at players that have good Davis Cup records and take pride in representing their nation. .

Therefore think the following could be worth a bet to get the gold:

Nalbandian @ 80.0 - Pulling on Argentina colours could inspire him again. One of the best Davis cup players in the modern era and someone who matches up favourably against the big three, especially Nadal and Fed. Has a pretty favourable draw up until Djoko in the quarters, although there is no guarantees Djoko will reach that far.

Gonzalez @ 110.0 - Has good memories from the last olympics and is another player who can put aside poor form where playing for his country and is in the more favourable quarter of the draw with Davy.

Also I don't understand why the Bryans are such big favs for the doubles? They are on the way down and I always think that if the top 50 regularly played doubles, they wouldn't have half the success they have had. Djokovic and Zimonjic look a good team and maybe the Murray's at 25.0.

Re: Tennis

There is a match for bronze medal between both sf losers. Look at official draw.

Re: Tennis

Djokovic and Zimonjic really interest me in the doubles, passionate about their country and should be a good team, agree with jaap about the bryans very overrated these days.

Re: Tennis

Anyone think Murray brothers have a chance? i guess the doubles can depend on how the likes of Andy and Novak and all the rest do in the singles

Re: Tennis - Beijing Olympics

Conditions are very difficult with extreme heat, humidity and smog. Nadal isn't happy and has been drifting in the odds.

My first thought is that big servers will have a significant advantage due to the conditions (without taking into account the actual court surface).

Re: Tennis - Beijing Olympics

I honestly believe that the big three won't even get a medal here, it is very difficult considering their grueling year. I wouldn't be surprised if Nalbie wins it this year and at those odds he is worth a look. On the woman's side, I fancy Safina still with maybe a look at an underdog like Li or Zheng.

Could prove to be a very physically demanding tournament.

If so, I would favour Nadal, the guy is a true warrior.

And fade Djokovic for the same reason.

From what I've seen of them together over the years, I don't think they gel together all that well, and I'd be mildly surprised if they even win R1...Nestor isn't a nice opener.

Agree with Jaap about the Bryans...they are favourites for a reason (Davis Cup doubles & best proven doubles team in the draw...e.g. no Nestor/Zimonjic), but as he said, there a number of strong singles players teaming up, so a good chance that a few of those combos rough up some of the doubles specialists.

R. Nadal to win outright

reason: biggest heart and fighting spirit of all players
