Re: US Open Time....GO JIRI!!!

Hi,

Jiri and Tomas Cibulec lost today 2-3 to Erlich and Ram before retirement. Does anyone know which player retired with injury?

Re: US Open Time....GO JIRI!!!

The only thing I can say is that Jiri's heel injury was the reason of the retirement in the doubles and also for the match against Massu, he has already travelled back home.

I hope it is not serious.

Re: US Open Time....GO JIRI!!!

Now I must say it is not definitely insignificant!

Novak's participation in Davis Cup is endangered

NEW YORK - The participation of Jiri Novak in the world group play-off is endangered. The reliance of the Czech team pulled out of the second round of US Open because of the injury of his fibrous insertion on the heel. He has come back home. After the investigation in the Prague hospital Motol is not clear if he will catch the tie against Germany which will take place from 23.-25.september in the Liberec arena. He flew away earlier from New York because he wants to heal as soon as possible.

After the arrival to Prague rushed Novak to the hospital for the investigation. His injury checked up physioterapeut Pavel Kolář and an orthopeadist Václav Smetana. "They gave me an intensive therapy to heal it as soon as possible," said Novak. His participation in Davis Cup is not warranted. "They can't say how long it will take to heal. It is not worthy to solve it now, I juts want to play there," said Novak.

The tennis player has to be in the tranquility and will come to the Motol hospital for the supersound and procedures which should improve the venous return to the area. "It is a heavily medicable area and we can't say if he will be 100% prepared for Davis Cup. The medication doesn't guarantee that everything will come back to the perfect condition," said Kolář to the journalists.

The 30-year-old Novak has according to him problems with his right foot fro a long time. "On the hard court it has become worse. With difficulty I passed through the first round which was quite easy," said Novak who beat the Belgian Dick Norman. "I endured it but I wasn't able to play anymore," said Novak.

On wednesday played in the first round of the doubles with Tomas Cibulec but after five games gave up. "I wanted to try how I would feel before the second round of the singles but after a few games I knew it is very bad," said Novak. In the second round of the singles the 23th seed had to play with the Olympic winner Nicolas Massu from Chile. "I couldn't play anymore, I had to leave," said Novak.

The Davis Cup captain Cyril Suk may have a difficulties with the team. And Radek Stepanek doesn't play Davis Cup. If Novak wouldn't play the team no.1 would be Tomas Berdych and other players would were Tomáš Zíb, Ivo Minář, Jan Hernych, Robin Vik or Jiří Vaněk who are all players with minimum or no Davis Cup experiences. The Czech Republic is the only one team who has never left the World group.

Carlos Moya: "I've known Rafael since he was 10 and day after day he keeps impressing me more and more."
Tommy Haas: "Rafael is a great player. It's amazing how strong, how successful he plays at this age..."

Lenka, many thanks for the article!!!!
Jiri, please have a good rest!!! you really shouldn't endure the injury if you feel any problem in the 1st round!!!!! giving up the match now is wise, just have a good rest, I really want to see you play DC for Czech!!!
